The German-language series debuted in May 2024, captivating audiences with the unexpected romance between former classmates Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), who transition from rivals to lovers. During their time at an elite U.K. school, Ruby, a scholarship student, inadvertently stumbled upon a secret that drew the attention of the affluent James.

“Upon completion, we began presenting it to our international partners,” she recounted during a June 2024 event. “Drawing from the successes of Culpa Mia and The Summer I Turned Pretty, we had established data indicating a demand for female-centric romance programming, a factor absent when we initiated [Maxton Hall]. Consequently, it was prioritized globally.”

Hengge further remarked, “It’s astonishing to witness something we cherished resonate globally, especially with females everywhere, and interestingly, their partners seem pleased to watch too. My hope is to evoke laughter, tears, comfort, and a good night’s sleep.”

Who Will Return for Season 2?

Alongside Herbig-Matten and Hardung, Sonja Weißer, Ben Felipe, Fedja van Huêt, Runa Greiner, Justus Riesner and Andrea Guo are confirmed to reprise their roles.

“The wait for the show was quite lengthy — two years was unexpected,” Herbig-Matten revealed in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in May 2024, recalling the filming process in 2022. “It made us anxious. We were eager for it to finally air! But some things are beyond our control.”

Given the swift initiation of filming for season 2, fans might anticipate a shorter wait time. Maxton Hall could make a comeback in spring 2025, with Hengge hinting that this season may feature an expanded episode count of eight to ten.

The inaugural season of Maxton Hall adapted Mona Kasten’s book Save Me, indicating that the upcoming season will draw from Save You. Following their romantic union at season 1’s conclusion, James and Ruby’s journey will evolve as they navigate the complexities of their personal lives.

In June 2024, Kasten shared a preview photo from season 2 on Instagram, captioning it “You better grovel, boy,” alongside James, and “You’re doing amazing, sweetie,” referring to Ruby.

What Is the Official Synopsis?

The synopsis reveals that Ruby and James won’t enjoy their happiness for too long, as “a twist of fate within James’ family alters everything, forcing him to ground her from an idealized reality.” Continued challenges will test their relationship, yet “she can’t erase James from her memory, especially since he’s diving into efforts to win her back.”

Are There Storylines the Cast Hopes to See?

Prior to returning to filming, Herbig-Matten and Hardung expressed their hopes for their characters in an interview with Us.

“I wish for Ruby to remain authentic and maintain her boundaries. Although she’s already doing this, I want it to continue. Additionally, focusing on female friendships is vital. A woman should never compromise herself for a man,” Herbig-Matten stated. “I learned valuable lessons during the first season that I aim to carry into season 2.”

“From Damian, I’ve observed the importance of post-shoot workouts. That insight has been beneficial for me as it helps to clear my mind and process my day,” she added.

Hardung expressed a desire for James to undergo personal growth.

“I often mention this, but I genuinely hope he and his family pursue therapy to address their issues,” he explained. “They should enhance their communication regarding needs and desires to facilitate a smoother path forward, avoiding unnecessary complications.”

“The key takeaway is the importance of communication and understanding your boundaries. I’ve learned to advocate for myself, and I value friendships outside of the industry, which has been crucial for me. This journey has fostered confidence,” Herbig-Matten reflected with Us in May 2024. “Now that I’m returning for season 2, I feel I have a second chance to process emotions I couldn’t before.”

Hardung noted he is “still managing” the intense attention.

“These past weeks have been quite overwhelming. I feel grateful and privileged to experience this journey, but there have been moments when I needed to disconnect from social media to focus on other aspects of life,” he confessed. “It’s been a lot to take in, but I appreciate the support. I’m also thankful for the chance to attend university, which helps bring a level of normality to my life.”

Could More Seasons of ‘Maxton Hall’ Be on the Horizon?

With three novels in Kasten’s series, fans are anticipating an equal number of seasons. As of now, Prime Video has not confirmed the renewal of Maxton Hall for a third season. However, in September 2024, Christoph Schneider, National Director at Prime Video Germany and Austria, hinted at favorable prospects for renewal.

“We have an excellent IP, masterfully produced, and not only the leads but the entire cast delivered outstanding performances, making this show truly unique,” he elaborated to Deadline. “The positive news is we are looking at a three-season plan.”
