Katy Perry Opens Up About Reconnecting with Taylor Swift After Years of Feud
Katy Perry expressed her joy after a delightful encounter with Taylor Swift backstage at the Eras Tour last year.
“I had a brief show in Australia and just one day off before my next performance,” Perry, 40, shared during a TikTok video with U.K. radio show Capital on January 17. “I decided to surprise her by attending her show, and she was thrilled to see me.”
She added, “I was over the moon. People gifted me bracelets, including one from Rita Ora. It felt wonderful. The whole atmosphere was like a big, inviting community — truly adorable and sweet.”
Perry was present at one of Swift’s February 2024 concerts in Sydney, where she caught up with the pop star backstage.
“We had a lovely time reconnecting,” Perry shared with Capital, reminiscing about the Instagram selfie they took together. “I adore her.”
Swift, 35, and Perry initially bonded in 2009 as they made their way in the music industry but faced rumors of a feud over relationships with John Mayer and tensions regarding backup dancers.
“She did something really terrible. I thought, ‘Oh, we are rivals now.’ But it wasn’t even about romance; it was business-related,” Swift disclosed to Rolling Stone in 2014. “She essentially attempted to undermine my entire tour. I’m not one for confrontation, and I truly dislike conflict. So I just avoided her, which made things rather awkward.”
During their previous tension, Swift had vowed not to publicly mention Perry again, but by 2018 they had reconciled, just before Perry’s surprise appearance in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video.
“I felt she was on the brink of something significant and needed my support,” Perry conveyed on KIIS 1065’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show in July 2018, discussing her role in Swift’s music video and Swift’s Reputation Tour. “As I completed my tour, I recognized how much we share, and perhaps there are only a few people who understand our experiences, making it essential to celebrate our similarities and our friendship.”
