Al Roker Reflects on Feeling Old as Adults Share They Grew Up Watching Him
On Thursday, January 23, the beloved Today show weatherman Al Roker visited the kitchen of Melissa Ben-Ishay, the founder of Baked By Melissa.
The unexpected duo teamed up to showcase Roker’s chocolate chip pancake recipe, featured in his new cookbook, Al Roker’s Recipes to Live By.
“Here’s what’s cooking in your neck of the woods!” captioned Ben-Ishay, referencing Roker’s iconic catchphrase from the Today show.
As they went through the recipe step by step, Roker remained his usual cheerful self, prompting several laughs from Ben-Ishay.
When it came time to cook the pancakes, Ben-Ishay exclaimed, “Look, Mom and Dad, Al Roker is making pancakes in my kitchen.”
“They love you,” she told Roker, who responded with an “awe.”
“I feel like I grew up with you,” Ben-Ishay said.
“That’s when you realize you’re old—when grown adults come up and say, ‘I grew up watching you.’ Well, thanks a lot!” he joked.
Ben-Ishay then offered Roker a controversial tip, suggesting he add salt to the pancakes after smothering them in syrup.
“Salt?” Roker questioned. “Yeah, because salt enhances flavor!” Ben-Ishay explained, which astonished Roker.
After sampling the finished pancake stack, they both concluded they were “drop-the-fork delicious.”
“Those are incredible,” Ben-Ishay told an appreciative Roker, who joined in her signature sign-off, “Love you. Bye.”
“This is THE best thing I’ve seen on the internet today! We all need a little more of Al,” wrote one commenter.
“The collab we didn’t know we needed,” another chimed in.
“He has to be a regular guest! This is amazing,” another suggested.
