Prince William and Kate Middleton to Miss the 2025 BAFTA Awards
Despite having made several public appearances since revealing her cancer is in remission, Princess Kate Middleton will miss a significant upcoming occasion alongside Prince William.
Kensington Palace officially announced to various outlets on Monday, February 10, confirming that the Prince and Princess of Wales will not participate in the BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday, February 16. Nonetheless, William will visit the London Screen Academy on Wednesday, February 12, and will contribute to the awards ceremony through a video message. (William, 42, has held the role of president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010.)
This year marks the second consecutive BAFTAs that Kate, 43, will not attend. She missed the 2024 BAFTAs in February while recuperating from a scheduled abdominal procedure. At that time, William walked the red carpet solo and expressed regret over Kate’s absence, stating, “I’m sorry Catherine’s not here. She does love the BAFTAs,” to Elaine Bedell, chief executive of the Southbank Center.
In March, Kate revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer following her January surgery and would be undergoing “preventative chemotherapy.” The couple also skipped the BAFTA Television Awards the following May, although a pre-recorded video featuring William was showcased during the ceremony.
The last occasion the couple attended the BAFTAs together was in February 2023, after a two-year absence from the awards. William presented a stylish appearance in a black velvet blazer, black pants, and a black bow tie, while Kate captivated with her elegant white one-shoulder gown designed by Jenny Packham. She accessorized with gold statement earrings, black opera gloves, and a small black clutch.
In June 2024, Kate returned to public view for the first time since her cancer diagnosis during the annual Trooping the Colour event. Nearly three months later, she announced the completion of her chemotherapy by releasing a new video featuring herself, William, and their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

“While I have finished chemotherapy, the journey to healing and complete recovery remains lengthy, and I must take it one day at a time,” Kate shared in a recent video on social media. “I am eager to return to work and engage in more public appearances in the upcoming months when I am able.”
Kate announced she was officially in remission with a photo from her visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital, where her treatment took place. Sharing the image on Instagram last month, she said, “As anyone who has faced a cancer diagnosis understands, it takes time to adapt to a new normal. However, I’m looking forward to a promising year ahead. There is much to anticipate. Thank you all for your unwavering support.”
This past month, she also shared an inspiring message on World Cancer Day via Instagram. “Remember to cherish everything that lies beyond the illness,” she wrote, accompanying a photo from February 3 where she is joyfully standing in the woods, captured by none other than Louis.
