Kansas City Chiefs’ Xavier Worthy Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

Wide receiver Xavier Worthy of the Kansas City Chiefs has been taken into custody on domestic violence charges.

According to online records from Williams County, Texas, Worthy was arrested on Friday, March 7, and faces charges for assault against a family or household member by obstructing their breathing or circulation. The identity of the individual involved has yet to be disclosed.

TMZ has reported that Worthy is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, March 8.

In a statement released on March 7, the Chiefs organization acknowledged the situation, saying, “We are aware and gathering information,” according to USA Today. Worthy has not yet made any public statements regarding his arrest or the charges.

Worthy was picked as the 28th overall selection by the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL Draft after impressively clocking a record-breaking 40-yard dash time of 4.21 seconds at the NFL combine that spring. Following his draft, his now-fiancée, Tia Jones, celebrated his achievement on social media.

“Welcome to the Chiefs kingdom ❤️. #chiefs #nfldraft #worthy,” Jones wrote in an Instagram post featuring photos of the couple.

The couple announced their engagement in July 2024, with Worthy proposing to Jones on a beach, getting down on one knee near a stunning red flower arch adorned with a “Marry Me” sign.

Just two months later, Worthy made his regular-season debut, scoring two touchdowns. In a Chiefs video shared on X, he expressed, “First game, first touchdown, first win. Proud to be a Chief. Go Chiefs Kingdom!” Jones also shared her excitement on X, stating, “Zay’s first real NFL touchdown 🏈 First TD of the game! Ended with 2 TDs and 68 yards on just 3 touches 🤯.”

As the couple looks forward to their wedding, Jones reflected on how their romance began during a November 2024 guest appearance on “The Pregame Podcast With Tokyo and Sydnee.” She mentioned that Worthy had previously messaged her, but she had not responded.

“’Cause, you know, it’s Instagram. Swipe in, swipe out,” she explained, adding that their fortunes changed when she relocated to Texas, where he was residing at the time. “Eventually, I moved to Texas to train with my coach. He was attending the University of Texas, and we crossed paths at a restaurant.”

While running “so late” to a friend’s dinner at a steakhouse, Jones encountered two cars that sped up and cut in front of her—one of which was driven by Worthy. They both ended up at the restaurant’s valet area, initially intending to confront the driver for his reckless driving. However, upon recognizing Worthy, everything changed.

“[He gave me a look like], ‘I’ve been looking for you,’” Jones reminisced, highlighting how Worthy was “just a gentleman” and offered to take her out on a date. “That’s why God had me late to that dinner. ‘Cause I met my man.”
