Kaitlyn Bristowe Claims Dogs Would ‘Play Dead’ to Dodge House Swapping
Kaitlyn Bristowe is prioritizing her furry friends.
The former Bachelorette, 39, previously shared custody of her two dogs, Ramen and Pinot, with ex Jason Tartick following their breakup in 2023. This arrangement ceased late last year as she noted that the golden retrievers were struggling with the frequent transitions. Now, she’s providing more insight into how the pups have coped with their split.
“The dogs experienced extreme anxiety at both homes,” she commented via an Instagram post on Tuesday, March 25. “They would play dead to avoid switching again.”
Bristowe’s remark appeared under a video she shared showcasing one of the dogs, while she was lip-syncing to Taylor Swift’s track “Mean.”
“Up your butt and around the corner,” she captioned her post. “You know who you are (it’s you trolls).”
As speculation grew in the comments regarding the context of Bristowe’s post, she felt it necessary to clarify.
“Let me clarify this. This post is not intended to be about the dogs. You all have turned it into one, so let me set the record straight,” she started her comment.
Bristowe and Tartick, 36, welcomed Ramen and Pinot into their lives from Bunny’s Buddies, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats in Asia. The dogs had been homeless, lacking any stability until the couple provided them with a home.
“We have both sought advice from professionals who agreed it’s best for the dogs to reside in one home,” she continued. “Bunny’s Buddies included in their contract that the dogs should not experience the trauma of moving back and forth, which resulted in their scared, anxious, and traumatized behaviors. We made the decision collectively after I expressed that I was not willing to co-parent anymore. I’ve always said—and still maintain—that if he wanted to see the dogs, he could.”
To dispel any lingering rumors, Bristowe emphasized that her caption was not aimed at Tartick.
“I have not heard from him at all, and this was merely meant to be a humorous ‘up your butt and around the corner’ joke about something else,” she concluded. “And whatever that something else is can be about whatever I want because it’s my truth and you all don’t know the whole story. I’m often portrayed as a villain in some of your narratives. That’s fine. I just wish you were aware of the truth.”
Tartick recently announced in March that he adopted a new dog from a local shelter, who initially went by the name Rango, but Tartick asked his followers on Instagram for suggestions on a new name.
“My new best buddy needs a name!” he posted on Instagram on March 5. “I have a few favorites in mind, but before deciding, I’d love to hear your ideas. Coincidentally, the day I chose to volunteer at the rescue was the exact day they picked him up from the local shelter. The connection was immediate. While I like the name ‘Rango’ given by the rescue, I’m considering other options. Let me know what names you think would be fitting for him!”
