Patrick Schwarzenegger Responds to ‘White Lotus’ Incest Storyline
Notice: Spoilers for Season 3 of “The White Lotus” are included in this post.
It turns out that the brotherly kiss between Saxon and Lochlan Ratliff in Season 3 of “The White Lotus” led to a lot more than anyone expected.
In Episode 6, the brothers begin to uncork memories from their blackout after a wild night at the Full Moon Party, only to discover that they had an unforgettable threesome with Greg’s girlfriend, Chloe.
Patrick Schwarzenegger, who portrays Saxon on the acclaimed HBO series, shared with TODAY.com that upon reading the episode’s script, he was completely taken aback.
“When you sign on to do ‘The White Lotus,’ you anticipate some crazy developments,” he states. “You never know if it will involve your character. I have absolute faith in Mike White as a writer, director, and showrunner — I embrace whatever direction he wants to take.
“I believe he writes scenes that truly enrich the story and the characters’ journeys,” Schwarzenegger adds. “When I read it, I was floored. Honestly, it was shocking. I’m sure audiences will be just as surprised.”
Saxon is the first brother to sense that something more transpired, aside from their kiss, aboard Greg’s yacht after the Full Moon Party.
Looking nauseated on the yacht’s top deck, Saxon is struck by another flashback of the threesome. It is at this moment that Lochlan (Sam Nivola) comes over, claiming he doesn’t recall anything from the previous evening.

Saxon then awkwardly walks away from Lochlan, only to dash to the restroom to vomit.
Upon returning to the hotel, their sister Piper and their parents are preparing to visit the monastery to speak with the monk whom Piper aspires to study under. Piper invites Lochlan to join them while Saxon opts to stay back and consume his protein shake.
Saxon heads to the pool where he encounters Chelsea, who remarks that he appears “soulless.” Chloe later joins them at the pool and inquires about the previous night.
Saxon dismisses their kiss as “a joke,” claiming that the girls compelled them to do it.
“I didn’t force him to jerk you off,” Chloe shoots back, leaving Saxon incredulous — initially denying it before finally saying he has no recollection of that occurrence.
“I blacked out,” Saxon admits.
“Well, I didn’t … so,” Chloe responds, while Chelsea’s eyes widen in shock.
Saxon, looking visibly ill, inquires about what substances he might have ingested at the Full Moon Party.
“I don’t think there’s any drug out there that would make me hook up with my brother,” Chelsea quips.
Saxon then makes his way back to his room. Meanwhile, at the monastery, Lochlan experiences flashes of the previous night during a meditation session with his sister, gradually recalling the events from the night.
The episode concludes with the brothers still apart, hinting at the impending fallout from that night. Lochlan plans to spend the night at the monastery while Saxon, accompanied by his parents, heads to Greg’s for a dinner party.

HBO
Previously, Schwarzenegger told TODAY.com that he credited the show’s creator, Mike White, for the way the kissing scene in Episode 5 was conceived.
“He allows the audience to interpret what’s happening,” Schwarzenegger explained regarding White’s approach. “Was there a shift in power dynamics? Is Lochy coming on to him? Are drugs involved? Are the girls pressuring him? What is going on? I think he intentionally keeps those questions open for the viewers to ponder.”
While the kiss is open to interpretation, fans of “The White Lotus” are bound to have strong reactions regarding the ensuing incestuous threesome.
