Doctor Odyssey: Is Shania Twain Expecting Don Johnson’s Baby?

One thing Doctor Odyssey consistently delivers is a surprising pregnancy twist — this time involving Shania Twain and Don Johnson’s characters.

In the episode aired on Thursday, March 27, Twain, 59, reprised her role as a widow named Heather, who becomes romantically involved with Captain Massey (Johnson). Their fictional relationship ignites just minutes into Cougar Week, now dubbed Sophisticated Ladies Week, and it becomes evident that Heather is pregnant despite being in menopause.

Avery (Phillipa Soo) has her doubts as a medical expert, but subsequent tests verify that Heather is indeed expecting. Captain Massey takes the initiative to guide Max (Joshua Jackson) and Tristan (Sean Teale) on how to be supportive in such a scenario, assuring Heather that he will stand by her side and care for their unborn child.

This marks the second time this season that Doctor Odyssey has thrown in a baby surprise for Us. Earlier, viewers witnessed a complicated situation involving Avery, Max, and Tristan, where a broken condom led to a pregnancy, leaving them uncertain about the paternity.

“Avery has a decision to make, and she’s uncertain about her options. I think that feeling stuck in such a pivotal moment resonates with many women,” Soo, 34, shared with TV Insider in November 2024 about Avery’s unique pregnancy journey. “It perfectly illustrates how such discussions can be complicated, and people don’t always respond correctly at first.”

She continued: “Especially with these three characters conversing, we’ve ventured into new ground regarding how we address such topics.”

Soo expressed her surprise when creator Ryan Murphy first revealed the unexpected twist.

“I was genuinely taken aback. However, knowing Ryan, I trusted how it would develop, and I was thrilled with the outcome. It’s an unprecedented type of relationship we’ve not seen in procedural dramas,” she elaborated. “I appreciate exploring new and challenging dynamics, especially within a close-knit medical team facing relationship complexities.”

While it’s uncertain what path Avery, Tristan, and Max might choose, Captain Massey’s situation appears to be on track for now. Johnson, 75, recently opened up to Us Weekly about the enjoyable experience he’s having on the set of Doctor Odyssey.
