Katy Perry first crossed paths with her ex-husband Russell Brand during the filming of a cameo for the 2010 movie Get Him to the Greek—but their romance was fleeting.
Although their scene was ultimately removed from the final cut, the brief encounter inspired her to take the initiative when Brand was performing on stage at the VMAs the following year. The couple announced their engagement in January 2010, having dated for just four months, and exchanged vows in a Hindu ceremony in India the same October. Unfortunately, their relationship ended as swiftly as it began.
In December 2011, Brand revealed that he and Perry had mutually decided to separate after being married for just over a year. In July 2012, Brand shared with Howard Stern that while he “loved [Perry] deeply,” he came to the realization that their relationship simply wasn’t meant to be.
