Jimmy Kimmel Welcomes the Joys of Grandfatherhood

On Tuesday, May 20, during his show’s monologue, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel excitedly shared some delightful news with his audience.

After only his second absence as the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Jimmy announced that his daughter, Katie Kimmel, had given birth to a baby girl on May 19, making him a grandfather.

He shares his children Katie, 33, and his first son Kevin Kimmel with his first wife, Gina Kimmel. The 57-year-old also has two younger children, Jane and Billy Kimmel, with his wife of over a decade, Molly McNearney.

“People know I have two little kids, but they might not know about my older kids,” Jimmy said, humorously explaining his absence to the audience. “My oldest daughter is 83,” he joked.

Katie shared the news of her pregnancy with her husband, Will Logsdon, back in March via social media, captioning it with “Makin girl 🐖🪕🥇” in her post.

“The baby is perfectly healthy,” Jimmy remarked, first joking that they named her “Melania the Stallion,” before revealing she’s named after his mother, Joann Iacono.

“They gave her a really adorable name,” Jimmy shared. “Her name is Patti, like the melt, but with an ‘i’ instead of a ‘y.’”

Her middle name is Joann.

Jimmy Kimmel had a boys’ night out with his look-alike son Kevin Kimmel, and the pair had fans seeing double. The father-son duo enjoyed a courtside view at the Lakers game in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 26, at the Crypto.com Arena. The host, 55, opted for a casual outfit for the event.

“We had a huge family gathering at the hospital. It was larger than Coachella,” Jimmy mentioned. “One of the few who wasn’t there was my Aunt Chippy. She lives in Vegas and tends to have strong opinions on baby names. My brother named his daughter Trixie, and when she heard it, she said, ‘What kind of a name is Trixie?’ I responded, ‘What kind of name is Chippy?’”

Jimmy then shared a clip of himself in the waiting room, where he called Chippy to deliver the joyful news. Initially teasing her, he joked about naming her great-great niece “Joannmama Kevin Logsdon.”

Aunt Chippy playfully threatened Jimmy, warning that if he didn’t stop joking around, she would come back and “haunt” him.

He reflected on the peculiar lessons he learned from his grandfathers, saying, “Now I have to think of something unique to teach my grandkids.”

“It is somewhat daunting to bring a child into this world and think, ‘Okay, you’re here until at least the year 2100. Good luck,’” Jimmy confessed.

Stars like Kris Jenner manage to juggle their prominent careers while showering attention on their grandchildren. The matriarch of the Kardashians is notably the proud mother of Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Rob, Kendall, and Kylie Jenner. Along with supporting her children — shared with her ex-husband Robert Kardashian — she is deeply involved in her grandchildren’s lives.

“These kids today have to face concerns like climate change, politics, and AI. When I was a kid, our fears revolved around quicksand, the Bermuda Triangle, and killer bees—my personal trio of terror. So far, I haven’t encountered any of those,” he added.

According to Late Nighter, Jimmy is the first late-night host to become a grandfather since Johnny Carson, who hosted The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992.
