Which Chicago P.D. Stars Will Return for Season 13, and Who Won’t?

Chicago P.D. is undergoing some cast adjustments, meaning not everyone will be back for season 13.

The One Chicago franchise comprises three series: Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. In recent years, each show has surprised viewers with the frequent departures and arrivals of beloved cast members.

NBC’s program planning president, Jeff Bader, previously expressed confidence that these changes wouldn’t impact the One Chicago universe.

“Cast comes in, cast goes out,” Bader shared with TVLine in a July 2024 interview. “Every year, we see cast changes, and someone always asks the same question” about the dynamics in the One Chicago universe. “Yet, those shows keep thriving.”

Bader emphasized that each of the Chicago series continues to find success, stating, “We’re thrilled with how the Chicagos perform on Wednesdays. We have no plans to alter anything on that night.”

Even with Bader’s optimism for Chicago P.D., fans became more anxious when NBC canceled shows like Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, Found, The Irrational, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, and Suits LA in May 2025. NBC has since renewed The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds, but they are the only freshman shows to survive.

These unexpected cancellations occurred after NBC signed an 11-year deal with the NBA, worth nearly $2.5 billion annually, allowing the network to air up to 100 regular-season games, which impacted the volume of original programming available this fall.

While One Chicago and Law & Order are currently secure at the network, several cast departures have still caught us off guard. Scroll down for a summary of who is confirmed to return for season 13 so far:

Chicago P.D. would be incomplete without Beghe’s portrayal of Voight. Season 13 will be challenging after Voight faced Deputy Chief Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy) one final time.

In the midst of the tumultuous season 12 finale, Burgess and Ruzek managed to tie the knot, which gives Us hope for their future. “We didn’t see them return to the unit; it wasn’t a neat conclusion. There’s still unresolved issues,” showrunner Gwen Sigan revealed exclusively to Us Weekly in May 2025, hinting that season 13 will introduce a “different dynamic” within the unit.

Patrick John Flueger

Sigan hinted that season 13 will explore more of the “wholesome” relationship between Burgess and Ruzek. “Now that they have some stability at home, what will that look like at work?” she shared. “What challenges can we present to them to develop interesting stories?”

LaRoyce Hawkins

Hawkins, who has portrayed Kevin Atwater since the series began, plans to continue. “We truly feel like a family,” he stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in February 2025. “I can still visit my grandparents and reconnect with my old high school; it feels like home.”

Amy Morton

Sigan emphasized Morton’s significance on the show, remarking in January 2025, “She’s highly regarded across all three shows, particularly due to her interactions with Mouch and her appearances on Chicago Fire. You truly see every character’s reaction.”

After season 12, Sigan confirmed that Torres will return to the show.

“He’s been through a lot this year,” she noted in May 2025. “He’s started to distance himself from some core aspects of his life like faith and job security. He’s experiencing a crisis of faith, and exploring how to reconcile that will be intriguing.”

Toya Turner

Turner announced she will not be returning as Officer Kiana Cook in season 13, posting on Instagram, “My journey on Chicago P.D. has come to an end. This show has challenged and shaped me, revealing my true potential. I leave with newfound clarity and momentum for what’s next. It was an honor to work with such a talented cast and crew. Onward to the next chapter.”

She added, “A final thank you to the ChiHards for their unwavering support and love for Kiana. Your encouragement means everything to me. I look forward to new opportunities!”

“I don’t think Chapman is gone completely. I believe her relationship with Voight has transformed significantly,” Sigan revealed to Us. “It’ll be fascinating to see how this develops, especially with her still being in Chicago.”
