Princess Anne Debuts Elegant Bun: Her First Major Hair Transformation in 50 Years
Princess Anne is considering a change to her signature hairstyle.
At 74 years old, the princess royal surprised her fans with a fresh look after 50 years of maintaining a voluminous updo during a State Banquet at Windsor Castle in London on Tuesday, July 8. For this event, she sported a twisted bun, a significant departure from her iconic bouffant hairdo that has defined her style since the 1980s.
While the crown of her hair retained its usual tease, the sides were elegantly pulled back and twisted into a refined bun. Daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Anne complemented her sophisticated new style with her diamond Festoon Tiara, a cherished piece in her collection since 1973.
Anne paired her stunning look with an ivory dress embellished with lace details on the bodice and a flowy pleated skirt. She enhanced her outfit with a cropped jacket and elbow-length gloves. To add more sparkle, she wore a diamond necklace, matching earrings, and shimmering pins, finishing her ensemble with a vibrant blue sash draped across her torso.
The royal discussed her signature look in her 2020 documentary, Princess Royal: Anne at 70. During the film, she reflected on how her hairstyle only requires a few minutes to achieve, in contrast to the lengthy process described by Erin Doherty, who portrays a younger Anne in Netflix’s The Crown.
“I recently read an article about Netflix and The Crown, where the actress was discussing the extensive time it took to perfect her hairstyle,” Anne noted. “And I thought, ‘How can it take that long?’ It only takes me about 10 or 15 minutes.”
