
Julian McMahon Passes Away at 56: Tributes Flood in for Charmed Star
Stars from the screen are honoring Nip/Tuck and Charmed actor Julian McMahon, who passed away at 56 after a private battle with cancer.
Following the announcement of his death by his wife in a statement to Deadline on Friday, July 4, celebrities took to social media to pay their respects.
“With a heavy heart, I want to share that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, passed away peacefully this week after a brave fight against cancer,” Kelly expressed in her statement to the outlet.
She continued: “Julian cherished life. He adored his family, friends, work, and fans. His utmost desire was to spread joy to as many lives as possible. We kindly ask for privacy as our family mourns, and we hope that all those who found joy through Julian continue to embrace it. We are thankful for the memories.”
Julian portrayed Cole Turner in Charmed across 47 episodes from 2000 to 2005, with many of his former co-stars expressing their sadness over his passing.
“A sad day for our Charmed family!” Brian Krause, 56, shared a photo of McMahon on Instagram. “Julian was one of the funniest, most charming, and kind-hearted individuals! Prayers to his family and close friends. He will certainly be missed! 🙏🙏🙏”
Sharing illustrated artwork of McMahon as an angel on her Instagram Story, Rose McGowan, 51, wrote, “Oh Julian, your brilliance, wild talent, and humor will forever be remembered. I pray for comfort for you, your family, and your loving fans around the globe.”
Meanwhile, Holly Marie Combs, 51, shared a montage of nostalgic moments with McMahon from Charmed, both on and off set, to honor him.
“One-of-a-kind is an understatement. Your unwavering passion for life and your delightful sense of humor will be profoundly missed,” she wrote. “The joy and laughter you brought will always be cherished. I hope you dance with our lady friend in those rose petals. 🌹”
Alyssa Milano, who played McMahon’s love interest in the series, described his passing as “too soon” and “too unfair” in her heartfelt tribute.
“I’m heartbroken,” Milano, 52, lamented. “Julian McMahon was pure magic. That smile. That laugh. That talent. That presence. He illuminated every room he entered, not only with charisma but also with kindness, mischief, and deep understanding.”
Alongside McMahon’s Charmed co-stars, actors from other projects also publicly expressed their sadness over his loss.
Ioan Gruffudd, who shared the screen with McMahon in the Fantastic Four films, paid tribute as well.
“It’s incredibly sad news regarding Julian,” Gruffudd, 51, remarked. “Despite playing adversaries, there was always a joyful and lighthearted atmosphere working together. Every moment spent with him was a joy.”
He added, “It was a privilege to take on the role of Dr. Richards opposite his Dr. Doom. My heart goes out to his wife and family. God speed, Julian.”
McMahon’s Nip/Tuck co-star, Kelly Carlson, who portrayed his character’s love interest for seven years, shared an emotional video on her Instagram expressing her shock over the news.
“Oh my gosh, I’m utterly shocked and saddened by this,” Carlson, 49, stated in the video. “I had no idea he had been unwell.”
Nicolas Cage, who worked with McMahon in the recent film, The Surfer, shared his thoughts through a statement to Deadline.
“Such deeply saddening news. I spent six weeks alongside Julian, and he was an exceptionally talented actor,” Cage, 61, expressed. “The scenes we shared in The Surfer remain some of my favorites, and Julian was one of my favorite people. He was kind and intelligent. My thoughts are with his family.”
