Julian McMahon, Star of Nip/Tuck, Passes Away at 56 Following Cancer Fight

Nip/Tuck and Charmed actor Julian McMahon has passed away at the age of 56.

His wife, Kelly McMahon, announced his death on Friday, July 4, after a private fight with cancer.

“With a heavy heart, I share the news that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, peacefully passed away this week following a courageous battle with cancer,” Kelly stated to Deadline. “Julian cherished life, his family, friends, work, and fans. His greatest desire was to spread happiness to as many lives as possible. We ask for privacy as we navigate this profound loss, and we hope that all those who felt his joy will continue to seek joy in their lives. We are thankful for the beautiful memories.”

McMahon is primarily remembered for his role as Dr. Christian Troy on Ryan Murphy’s acclaimed FX show Nip/Tuck, which aired from 2003 to 2010 and earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He also featured in shows such as Charmed, FBI: Most Wanted, Marvel’s Runaways and portrayed Dr. Doom in the two Fantastic Four films from 2005 and 2007: Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

McMahon began his career in the 1980s as a model before making his mark in acting on the Australian soap opera, Home and Away. He starred in 150 episodes from 1990 to 1991 before transitioning to Hollywood.

He met his first wife, Dannii Minogue, on set in 1991, and the pair wed in 1994 but divorced 18 months later. His second marriage was to actress Brooke Burns from 1999 to 2001, with whom he shares a daughter, Madison Elizabeth McMahon, now 25. He also had a brief romantic involvement with the late Shannen Doherty while filming Charmed. McMahon married his current wife, Kelly McMahon, in 2014.

He was also recognized as the only son of former Australian Prime Minister William McMahon, who served from 1971 to 1972.

McMahon’s last public appearance occurred in March during the North American premiere of The Surfer at the SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas.

He co-starred with Nicolas Cage in the film, and the duo walked the red carpet, taking photographs to promote the project at the event.

McMahon’s last Instagram post, shared in February, also promoted the film.

“Hello everyone. Just a quick update to let you know we have an amazing movie coming out, directed by Lorcan Finnegan,” he expressed. “Its premiere is at SXSW, which is super exciting, and it’s hitting theaters on May 2nd. It’s a psychological thriller that’s quite unique and thoroughly entertaining. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life. Cheers.”
