All Upcoming Colleen Hoover Book Adaptations Making Their Way to Hollywood

Colleen Hoover has transitioned from being the “It Girl” of BookTok to becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after authors.

Renowned for her emotionally charged novels, Hoover’s works are gaining even greater traction with various film adaptations in progress. Her standout novel, It Ends With Us, initially published in 2016, soared in popularity thanks to BookTok, ultimately becoming the best-selling print book of 2022. This success sparked interest in a film adaptation.

Justin Baldoni acquired the book’s rights in 2019, and in January 2023, Hoover made the first official casting announcement, sharing that Blake Lively would portray the protagonist Lily Bloom.

Hoover has encountered criticism regarding the casting of the film and Lily’s wardrobe, particularly concerning the age disparity between the characters in the film and those in the novel. The author has openly addressed these concerns, indicating that the alterations were thoughtfully made.

“When I originally wrote It Ends With Us, the new adult genre was all the rage, focusing on characters in college. I portrayed Lily as quite young, not fully grasping that neurosurgeons undergo many years of education. There simply isn’t a 20-something neurosurgeon,” she explained to Today in June 2023. “As we began developing this movie, I realized we needed to age the characters, which is on me.”

The film is scheduled for release in theaters in August 2024.

Following a perplexing accident, Verity appears to be in a catatonic state, but not without adding some eerie moments that include a chilling interaction with Jeremy and their son.

In May 2024, Hoover revealed that Verity would be adapted by Amazon MGM Studios. By November of that year, it was announced that Anne Hathaway would star as the titular Verity Crawford. The subsequent month saw the casting of Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford and Dakota Johnson as writer Lowen.

The film, which will also feature Ismael Cruz Cordóva and Brady Wagner, is slated for release on May 15, 2026.

Hoover shared in April 2025 that Verity had completed filming in an Instagram video where Hathaway held up both copies of the book and script for the film.

“And that’s a wrap! The Verity movie is coming in May 2026! Huge thanks to the entire cast, crew, and production teams!” the author captioned her video. “And a special shout out to @annehathaway for this clip. I can’t wait for you all to see this, as it’s going to be beautifully twisted!”

Other cast members include Dave Franco as Jonah, Mason Thames as Miller, and Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald in undisclosed roles.
