Busy Philipps Shares Her Thoughts on the ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Reunion and Fan Enthusiasm

The internet is buzzing about Joshua Jackson reuniting with his Dawson’s Creek love interest (and real-life ex!) Katie Holmes — and Busy Philipps is thrilled about it.

“Everyone loves Dawson’s Creek, and I’m a fan too,” Philipps, 46, who recently had her own reunion with Jackson, 47, last month, told Us Weekly exclusively at the opening night of Ginger Twinsies on Thursday, July 24. “I’m glad that people are happy to see us all together.”

While she hinted at a possible full-cast reunion to Us back in March, Philipps mentioned that there’s no news on that front just yet. However, she understands the fans’ eagerness, given the show’s lasting impact, even 25 years later.

“I believe it’s one of the defining teen shows that people revisit time and again,” she explained to Us. “What [show creator] Kevin Williamson achieved was revolutionary, portraying kids communicating like adults. It really shifted cultural norms. In a way, it transformed how kids interacted, and I think it’s enduring.”

Fans of Dawson’s went wild in June when Philipps and Jackson, who played love interests in seasons 5 and 6 of the show, reunited at the MPTF NextGen Annual Summer Party fundraiser. The excitement escalated when the Canadian actor met up with Holmes, 46, earlier this week.

The two looked joyful while filming Holmes’ upcoming trilogy of movies, Happy Hours, in New York City on Monday, July 21. They were spotted filming again on Friday, July 25, sharing laughter — and even a playful twirl from Holmes — while pushing a stroller in the park.

Philipps, Jackson, and Holmes were part of the iconic teen ensemble on Dawson’s Creek, which also featured James Van Der Beek and Michelle Williams. The show aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2003, following a group of friends in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts, from high school through college.

Though the cast members didn’t communicate much after the show ended, Van Der Beek revealed this year that they have recently reconnected.

“I’ve reached out to them recently, and it has been so wonderful,” Van Der Beek, 48, shared with Jana Kramer on her “Whine Down” podcast in March. “We all drifted apart and didn’t talk for years because we were living our own lives. Reconnecting and saying, ‘Wow, I really appreciate who you’ve grown into,’ has been amazing.”

In November 2024, Van Der Beek disclosed his diagnosis with colorectal cancer from the previous year, and Philipps informed Us in March that she, Holmes, and Williams, 44, are working on organizing a reunion to support their former castmate.

“We’re really trying to figure something out, but there are some scheduling conflicts that are hard to navigate,” she explained at the time. “It’s like playing chess, trying to align everyone’s calendars. I’m hopeful that we will make it happen eventually.”
