Chris Meloni Reveals the Key to His 30-Year Marriage with Sherman Williams

Christopher Meloni reveals that the key to his enduring 30-year marriage with Sherman Williams is their mutual commitment to “work” on their relationship.

“The effort involved in a marriage is subtle. It’s ongoing. It can sometimes be hardly noticeable. It’s about regularly checking in with one another, sensing each other, recognizing each other,” Meloni, 64, recently shared with “Entertainment Tonight.”

“It’s a path of growth. That’s what it means,” he continued.

The “Law & Order: Organized Crime” actor married his artist wife on July 1, 1995, in a medieval-themed seaside ceremony in Malibu, as reported by ET. They have a daughter, Sophia, 24, and a son, Dante, 21.

In March 2024, Meloni commemorated Sophia’s 23rd birthday by sharing nostalgic photos from her toddler years.

“Bananas, beaches, love, creativity,” he wrote in his post. “So grateful you came to us @sophiaemeloni. So thrilled you allowed me to join your B Day celebrations.”

He also posted an adorable baby picture of Dante on January 4, 2025, to celebrate his 21st birthday.

During his appearance on TODAY in September 2023, Meloni mentioned that he and Williams recently dropped off Dante at college, officially making them empty nesters.

The sudden silence in their home without the kids has been an adjustment for the Emmy-nominated actor.

“You take all the necessary steps, everything seems perfect, then you return home and it’s like you can hear the wind whistling through the hallways,” Meloni remarked. “Tumbleweeds. There’s an emptiness. It’s challenging; I’m navigating it right now. It’s very real.”

The silver lining to having the kids away from home? More quality time with Williams.

“Honestly, every evening could be a date night,” he shared. “You find yourself moving a little closer and walking a little slower together.”

Meloni expressed that his long-standing marriage to Williams has brought immense happiness into his life.

“What’s wonderful is that as the years go by, and you navigate all your shared experiences as a couple … if you can endure and rediscover why you fell in love and were drawn to each other in the first place, those feelings deepen. It’s just wonderful,” he concluded.
