Comparing the Cast of Little House on the Prairie: 1970s vs. Netflix Actors
Netflix is reimagining the Little House on the Prairie book series — but how does the new cast stack up against the cherished 1970s show?
Inspired by the novels of Laura Ingalls Wilder, the Little House on the Prairie series focuses on the Ingalls family, who reside on a farm by Plum Creek near Walnut Grove, Minnesota, during the late 1800s.
NBC debuted an adaptation in 1974 featuring Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, and Melissa Sue Anderson as the central cast. Little House also helped launch the careers of Jason Bateman, who portrayed James Cooper Ingalls, and reality television star Kyle Richards, who played Alicia Sanderson Edwards.
After Landon left the series during its ninth and final season, the title was changed to Little House: A New Beginning. Following the conclusion of Little House on the Prairie, three movies were produced.
Netflix has announced its version, scheduled for release in July 2026. The series has already been renewed for a second season and stars Alice Halsey, Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, and Skywalker Hughes.
Jocko Sims, Warren Christie, Wren Zhawenim Gotts, Meegwun Fairbrother, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, among others, round out the cast. Prior to the show’s launch, showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine reached out to fans concerned about the revival of their beloved series.
“I want people to understand that everyone involved in this production genuinely cares about the books and aims to portray them authentically, preserving all the beloved details,” she shared with People. “Everyone is deeply invested.”
