Dawson’s Creek Cast to Reunite Celebrating James Van Der Beek
UPDATE: 8/20/25, 3:00 p.m. ET: The wait is finally over! Fans of Dawson’s Creek can rejoice as an in-person reunion is set for next month, following James Van Der Beek‘s social media hint about something special in the works.
Original stars Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, and Joshua Jackson are collaborating with F Cancer for a charity event in New York City on Monday, September 22, as stated in an official press release.
In attendance will be former castmates Mary Beth Peil, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes, Nina Repeta, Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe, and Busy Philipps. The event will feature a live reading of the show’s pilot to support the charity and honor Van Der Beek, who is currently fighting stage 3 colorectal cancer.
“We grew up in Capeside, and that’s a bond that will last a lifetime,” Williams shared in a statement, referencing the beloved setting of the WB series. “We wanted to gather around our dear friend James and remind him that we are all here for him. We always have been, and we always will be. I know the fans of Dawson’s Creek feel the same way.”
The show’s creator, Kevin Williamson, will also be present to celebrate the gathering, which will be directed by Jason Moore.
“I am thrilled to reunite with James, Michelle, Katie, Joshua, and our Dawson’s Creek family for such a memorable night. Dawson’s Creek changed my life,” Williamson commented. “What began as a personal story about a young man and his friends navigating life’s challenges became something far beyond my dreams.”
He further noted, “It cultivated an enduring legacy and fandom worldwide. I am honored to be part of it and to support our beautiful friend, James, as we navigate through life’s many challenges.”
Tickets for this exclusive event will be available starting Friday, August 22, at 1 p.m. ET via Broadway Direct.

James Van Der Beek recently teased a potential Dawson’s Creek reunion with a cryptic message on social media, leaving fans eager for more information.
“If we were truly meant to be, then we’ll find a way back to each other,” read the post on Van Der Beek’s Instagram on August 20, quoting a memorable line from the iconic WB series.
So far, the only details shared are the date and location: September 22, 2025, in New York City.
The social media post featured a throwback Polaroid of Dawson’s Creek’s four central characters: Dawson Leery (Van Der Beek), Joey Potter (Katie Holmes), Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson), and Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams).
The show’s theme song, “I Don’t Want to Wait” by Paula Cole, played in the background, sending longtime fans into a frenzy at the possibilities.
“WAIT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??” one user commented.
Another fan echoed, “You guys are going to drive us crazy with this teaser. My GenX heart is fragile in my late 40s 😫😍.”
A third commenter exclaimed, “Hold up WHAAAAAAAAAT ❤️😮.”
Although Van Der Beek, 48, did not provide further details in his tease, his former co-star Busy Philipps added fuel to the reunion speculation on Wednesday.
Philipps, 46, who portrayed Audrey Liddell during the college years, shared the same throwback Polaroid featuring the quote on her Instagram, tagging Van Der Beek, Jackson, 47, and Holmes, 46. Williams, being Philipps’ close friend, does not have a social media presence.
“I just gasped! What does it all mean?! 🥲🩵,” a fan exclaimed in the comments. A different user remarked, “Honestly, I feel like we deserve this.”
Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Dawson’s mom, Gale Leery, and Nina Repeta, who was Bessie Potter, also shared the enigmatic message with their followers.
Dawson’s Creek aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2003, chronicling the lives of Dawson and his childhood best friend Joey — who famously sneaked into his window well into their teens — as they navigated the complexities of growing up and falling in love. The love triangle involving Dawson, Joey, and Pacey contributed to its lasting legacy as an iconic 90s coming-of-age series.
Earlier this year, there was a resurgence of Dawson’s Creek fandom after Van Der Beek confirmed he had reconnected with his co-stars after being apart for some time.
“I’ve recently reached out to them, and it’s been wonderful,” the actor mentioned during a March episode of the “Whine Down” podcast. “It has been lovely to catch up with them and see who they are now after all these years. It’s always great to reconnect with them.”
In April, Williams, 44, provided further insight into her friendship with Van Der Beek, confirming that she stays in touch with him since his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis in 2024.
“We’re in contact, and he’s in our hearts and minds, and he knows that,” she told Entertainment Tonight in April. “We’re here for him in every way possible.”
In July, Jackson and Holmes ignited excitement among fans when they were spotted filming a new project in New York City. It was later revealed that they are working on a trilogy of movies titled Happy Hours, in which they will portray love interests.
“Everybody loves Dawson’s Creek, and I do too,” Philipps told Us Weekly later that month, adding that she had seen Jackson earlier that summer. “I’m thrilled that people are happy to see us all together.”
Philipps previously mentioned to Us that a reunion has been on their minds for some time. “We’re really trying to sort something out, but some people have commitments that can’t be changed,” she shared in March. “It’s like a chess game trying to align everyone’s schedules. I remain hopeful that it will happen.”
