Erika Jayne Encourages John Mellencamp to Date RHOBH’s Dorit Kemsley
Erika Jayne is proposing an unexpected pairing between John Mellencamp and her newly-single Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star Dorit Kemsley.
“John should date Dorit. That’s what [should happen],” Erika, 53, shared with John’s daughter, Teddi Mellencamp, during the Thursday, May 1 episode of iHeartRadio’s “Diamonds in the Rough” podcast.
Teddi, who appeared on RHOBH from seasons 8 to 11, seemed taken aback by the idea of her father dating her former castmate, yet acknowledged they could make a great match.
“They could talk each other’s ears off,” Teddi, 43, joked.
The topic arose when Teddi showed Erika RHOBH alum Yolanda Hadid’s “I Love You” music video, which featured a private jet. Erika pointed out that Teddi’s father — a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee — must own one as well.
“He rarely lets me on his plane, and when he does, it’s filled with [cigarette] smoke,” Teddi quipped.
Erika noted that both John and Dorit “smoke,” with Teddi confirming they even use the same brand of cigarettes.
“They could smoke American Spirits [cigarettes], fly around in the [private] jet and talk each other’s ears off,” she envisaged.
Teddi acknowledged that the first hitch might be that her father’s private jet may not be “big enough” since Dorit is particularly selective about her travel preferences.
Unfazed, Erika urged Teddi, “That’s what we need to do. We should set up your father and Dorit … This could be a fantastic idea.”
As they discussed the potential dating scenario, Teddi remarked that Dorit would likely need to give up alcohol entirely if she intended to date John. RHOBH viewers will recognize that Dorit has a signature drink order — a Belvedere Vodka with club soda, three squeezed lemons, served in a short glass, with the “carcass out.”
“[John has] never drank. It’s not like he’s a recovering alcoholic, he simply doesn’t drink,” Teddi clarified. “In my opinion, girls drink and become super chatty. He’s not a fan of that.”
Teddi also mentioned a third challenge: John has been in a relationship with his current girlfriend, filmmaker Kristin Kehrberg, since 2023.
“Kristin, we love you, but if things don’t work out, we’ve got Dorit waiting in the wings,” Teddi concluded, with Erika adding, “I’m so sorry! I didn’t know!”
Dorit separated from husband Paul “P.K.” Kemsley after a decade of marriage in May 2024, with the couple filing for divorce this past April. P.K. has since been seen getting cozy with Shana Wall. The Kemsleys share son Jagger, born 2014, and daughter Phoenix, born 2016.
John has been married three times — to Priscilla Esterline from 1970 to 1981, to Victoria Granucci from 1981 to 1989, and to Elaine Irwin from 1992 to 2010. He shares daughter Michelle, born 1970, with Esterline, while daughters Teddi, born 1981, and Justice, born 1985, are from his second marriage. The rocker and his third wife Irwin have sons Hud, born 1994, and Speck, born 1995.
The “Pink Houses” singer also had an on-and-off relationship with actress Meg Ryan from 2010 to 2019. He has been romantically linked to supermodel Christie Brinkley and Jamie Sherrill (a.k.a. Nurse Jamie) since his divorce as well.
Erika recently told Us Weekly that she supports the RHOBH cast setting each other up on dates because it would be “hilarious” to see who each cast member chooses.
