Every Occasion Kate Middleton Adorned Herself with Queen Elizabeth II’s Jewelry: A Photo Review
A tribute fit for royalty. It was always a significant honor when the late Queen Elizabeth II permitted family members to borrow her cherished jewels — and Princess Kate Middleton ensured she returned that respect by paying homage to the late monarch with her selected gems.
During her remarkable seventy-year reign as Britain’s longest-serving sovereign, the queen — who sadly passed away in September 2022 at the age of 96 — would lend her exquisite jewelry for special events, always adhering to royal protocols. Tiaras, in particular, came with specific guidelines, including the rule that family members couldn’t wear the headpiece until they were married, and non-family members couldn’t wear one until they joined the family through marriage.
Kate initially donned one of Queen Elizabeth’s tiaras at her wedding to Prince William in April 2011, showcasing the dazzling Cartier “Halo” design that secured her delicate veil. This magnificent tiara was originally acquired by the monarch’s father, King George VI, for his wife, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who bequeathed it to her eldest daughter on Elizabeth’s 18th birthday.
Though Kate frequently chooses to remember her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, through her style and jewelry, she has also consistently showcased many of the queen’s pieces — during both joyous and reflective moments — in the years since marrying William.
Two years before Queen Elizabeth’s passing, a source revealed exclusively to Us Weekly about the close relationship between Kate and the monarch.
“Her Majesty views the Cambridges as the future of the monarchy and has complete trust in Kate and William’s judgment,” the insider shared with Us in April 2020. “Kate seeks guidance on speeches she’s preparing, whom she can rely on within the palace, and the dos and don’ts of royal protocol. The queen enjoys sharing her knowledge and is proud to serve as Catherine’s trusted adviser regarding royal matters.”
At King Charles III’s royal coronation in May 2023, Kate once again adorned herself with jewelry from the late monarch and Diana, pairing her white Alexander McQueen gown and shimmering floral headpiece with Elizabeth’s George VI Festoon Necklace and Diana’s South Sea Pearl Earrings.
