Explaining the Crossover between NCIS and NCIS: Origins

As we eagerly await new episodes of NCIS and its prequel, NCIS: Origins, CBS has shared thrilling updates about their connected storylines.

“Hello, I’m Wilmer Valderrama from NCIS, reaching out to you from the present day,” Valderrama stated in a joint announcement video released on Thursday, September 4.

His counterpart from Origins, Austin Stowell, added, “I’m coming to you from the ‘90s on NCIS: Origins.”

The pair teased an upcoming “NCIS crossover event like no other” that is set to air this fall. Stowell, portraying a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs, remarked, “Our mission is to solve a case that spans decades.”

In character, Stowell exclaimed, “What on earth is that? Is that a calculator?” while sharing the news in an Instagram video. Valderrama, holding his iPhone, humorously replied, “Yeah, let’s just call it that.”

NCIS first aired in 2003, featuring Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team at the Naval Criminal Investigation Service in Washington, D.C. as they tackled naval crime cases. Although Harmon departed from the series in 2021, it continues into its 23rd season this fall.

In October 2024, NCIS: Origins debuted, showcasing a younger Gibbs (Stowell) in the ‘90s, spotlighting the start of his career at the NIS, which would eventually evolve into NCIS in Southern California. How will the two shows intersect?
