Golfer Charley Hull is not particularly known for her healthy choices on the course — and she recently disclosed that her offseason was quite indulgent, too.

The 28-year-old Hull, who has gained a reputation for smoking cigarettes during competitions, shared how a recent trip to Belgium almost turned into a culinary challenge.

“The highlight of my offseason was visiting Bruges and indulging in heaps of chocolate,” Hull stated to reporters on Wednesday, February 12, before participating in the PIF Saudi Ladies International. “It was absolutely delicious.”

When inquired about “how much chocolate” she enjoyed during her vacation in Belgium, Hull remarked, “Enough to gain quite a bit of weight. But I exercised sufficiently to keep the weight off. It was incredibly good, though.”

In December 2024, Hull shared a series of photos from her Bruges trip on Instagram, including one featuring strawberries topped with chocolate.

Despite her smoking habit, Hull is committed to fitness. During Wednesday’s press conference, she expressed that her “main goal” for 2025 is to “reduce my 5k run time to 20 minutes.” Currently, her time is around “26 minutes.”

“I don’t specifically train for golf,” Hull added. “I have no desire to focus solely on golf training. I aspire to be more than just a golfer; I want to be recognized as an athlete. My training is beneficial for my mental wellness and overall health.”

Hull elaborated on her training philosophy in a January 2025 post via her Instagram Story, where she bluntly stated, “Golf training is dull.”

“I have no interest in that whatsoever, yet the training and weightlifting I engage in actually enhance my golf performance,” Hull articulated. “Running is a passion of mine that I pursue for fitness and mental clarity. Being fit reduces jet lag and boosts stamina.”

She added, “I dislike being lazy; I thrive on a fast-paced lifestyle. Sleep is crucial for me, as I require about 10-11 hours per night, yet I can function well on just 4-5 hours when necessary.”

Addressing those who criticize her smoking in light of her fitness enthusiasm, she remarked, “It’s the only negative habit I have!” Hull mentioned she had “gone through all my partying” by age 18 and 19.

Hull went viral after being photographed with a cigarette during the U.S. Women’s Open in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in May 2024.

“It was surreal,” Hull shared with the Daily Mail in August 2024. “Not what I had anticipated, but I suppose it demonstrates that any publicity is beneficial.”

She also remarked, “I would prefer to be in the news for my golfing achievements, but I hope this draws in some new fans to the sport!”

Regarding the roots of her smoking habit, Hull has disclosed, “Everyone in my family smokes.” As for smoking on the golf course, she previously mentioned that it helps her to “relax.”
