Harrison Ford Receives First Emmy Nomination for Shrinking at 83

Harrison Ford received a remarkable birthday gift just days after turning 83: his very first Emmy nomination!

The actor, who marked his birthday on Sunday, July 13, was nominated for a 2025 Emmys award two days later for his performance in Shrinking season 2. Ford is competing in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for his portrayal of senior therapist Dr. Paul Rhodes, a role he has relished since 2023.

The other nominees in this category include Shrinking costar Michael Urie, Ike Barinholtz for The Studio, Paul W. Downs for Hacks, Jeff Hiller for Somebody Somewhere, Ebon Moss-Bachrach for The Bear, and Bowen Yang for Saturday Night Live.

Furthermore, Shrinking has received its first nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. Jason Segel, portraying the grieving therapist and single dad Jimmy Laird, has also secured his second nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for the AppleTV+ show.

Nominations for the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday, July 15. Actor Harvey Guillén from What We Do in the Shadows, Brenda Song from Running Point, and Television Academy chair Cris Abrego unveiled the nominee list live from the Wolf Theatre at the TV Academy’s Saban Media Center ahead of the 77th annual ceremony.

Ford is a quintessential Hollywood icon, famously recognized for his role as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise and for wielding a whip like no other as Indiana Jones in the eponymous film series. However, despite his indelible impact on the industry, he doesn’t have as many accolades celebrating his on-screen achievements as one might expect.

Having been in the film industry since the 1960s, Ford has only received one Oscar nomination throughout his career. He garnered an Academy Award nod in 1986 for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Witness. That same year, he was also nominated for his only BAFTA Award for the same film.

If Ford wins the Emmy for Shrinking at the upcoming September 14 awards, it would mark his first major win in his extensive career.

Previously, he was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television at the 2025 Golden Globes for Shrinking, but the trophy went to Tadanobu Asano for Shōgun.

Ford’s performance in Shrinking was also honored at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, along with the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble category with his co-stars.

Additionally, the Hollywood legend has been recognized at various award ceremonies throughout the years.

He received the 2002 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, an honorary Cesar Award in 2010, the Honorary Golden Palm at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
