Jenna Bush Hager Broke Up with a College Boyfriend Because He Wore Her Jeans
Jenna Bush Hager shared the unexpected reason behind her breakup with a past partner.
The 43-year-old Bush Hager discussed her relationship with a “skinny fella” who matched her size in a conversation with her guest cohost Willie Geist on the Thursday, October 9, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends.
During the chat, she reminisced about a brief romance with a college crush, revealing that while prepping for class, he tried on her jeans and they fit perfectly. This moment signaled the end of their relationship, as Bush Hager candidly admitted.
“And that was the beginning of the end,” she joked. “I thought, ‘Oh, I can’t be bigger than you.’”
Jenna met her husband, Henry Hager, during the 2004 presidential campaign when her father, George W. Bush, was running for reelection against John Kerry. They married in 2008 and have three children together: daughters Mila, 12, Poppy, 10, and son Hal, 6.
This isn’t the first time Jenna has addressed style on Today. In June, she cut her hair live on air and followed Leslie Bibb’s lead with her White Lotus bob.
At the episode’s conclusion, Chris McMillan, the stylist behind Jennifer Aniston’s iconic “Rachel” haircut on Friends, came to give Jenna a fresh look.
As he began to cut, Bibb encouraged the audience, saying, “Tomorrow you’ll see the full look.”
“You’re such a badass; you’re cool. I love this,” she praised. Handing Jenna a cut strand, Jenna exclaimed, “Whoa, that’s so short.”
Jenna also mentioned that one of her daughters cautioned her against the drastic change. “My daughter was like, ‘Mom, don’t do it,’” Jenna recalled. “‘You’re going to regret it.’”
McMillan reassured her that the new style would be “modern and sexy.”
The next day, Jenna unveiled her new hair, along with her kids’ candid feedback.
“I don’t like it,” Mila outspokenly stated. Poppy echoed her sentiments, asking, “Why would you do that?”
In a lighthearted moment, Bibb joked, “Are those real tears? Your children are monsters. They started crying!”
Jenna clarified that her kids were “fake crying,” which she humorously termed their version of “love language.”
Despite her children’s reactions, Jenna shared that Henry, 47, complimented her by saying she looked “hot.”
Jenna Bush Hager isn’t hesitant to try new hairstyles. On June 16, she surprised fans with a haircut inspired by Leslie Bibb. “You’re such a badass; you’re cool. I love this,” Bibb encouraged as she initiated the change.
Bibb debuted her haircut, which she described as a “c**** little bob,” ahead of the third season of The White Lotus in March.
McMillan described the cut as “straight across, slightly angled [and] longer in the front.”
He noted that maintaining a consistent look was essential for a TV character, making a straightforward style ideal for her role as Kate Bohr.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the short hairstyle would help prevent messiness in the humidity of Thailand, where filming was taking place. McMillan concluded, “I think we nailed it, and we also created a kind of iconic look.”
