Jennifer Lopez Honors Donatella Versace’s Legendary Green Dress
Jennifer Lopez conveyed a heartfelt (and chic) message to Donatella Versace.
On Friday, March 14, Instagram shared the post following the announcement that Donatella, 69, will be stepping down from her role as the chief creative director of the House of Versace, transitioning to a position as chief brand ambassador after almost 30 remarkable years at the forefront. On Thursday, March 13, Donatella also revealed that she was “thrilled” to appoint her successor, Dario Vitale, previously the design and image director at Miu Miu.
Lopez, 55, posted a collection of photos showcasing her in Donatella’s iconic and daring ensembles, including that unforgettable green dress from the 2000 Grammys, a fashion moment that not only made history but also inspired the creation of Google Images due to its immense popularity and the challenge in locating images online.
“Gianni would be so proud,” Lopez began her caption. “What an incredible journey you’ve had. You are strong, resilient, powerful, talented, and I am so grateful to have gotten to know you throughout the years.”
She concluded with, “The journey we’ve taken together and the friendship we’ve built has been extraordinary. I believe this next chapter will be filled with love, joy, and friendship…and whatever it is you wish to create. I am always here for you.”
It’s important to remember that Lopez’s jungle-print Versace gown with a daring neckline played a crucial role in revitalizing Donatella’s career after the tragic death of her brother, Gianni Versace.
Fast forward three years, the iconic Grammys gown turned Donatella into a “household name,” as she noted. “It broke the bank.” She considers it among her all-time favorite Versace red-carpet moments.
Lopez refers to the gown as her “greatest fashion moment,” sharing with Vogue in 2019 that it represented “a moment in time, the impact of fashion,” showcasing its incredible influence.
This is certainly a stunning representation of Versace’s legacy and the brand’s lasting impact in the fashion world.
