Jennifer Lopez Surprised by Bruno Mars’ Performance Fee for Alex Rodriguez’s Wedding

Jennifer Lopez nearly spent a fortune to secure her ideal performer for her wedding with Alex Rodriguez.

Celebrity wedding planner Marcy Blum discussed her experience planning the couple’s nuptials before their eventual breakup on the Thursday, December 26, episode of “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her” podcast. “I have a story to share since I never signed an NDA,” she said.

Blum revealed that her clients often find “the price of headliners” astonishing, and Lopez, 55, and Rodriguez, 49, were no different. “We were collaborating with J.Lo and A-Rod before their split. As we explored different musicians, she asked, ‘What about Bruno Mars?’” she recounted.

After recently working with Mars, 39, Blum shocked Lopez with the singer’s substantial fee. “I told her, ‘I just worked with him and he’s $5 [million],’” she explained. “[Jennifer exclaimed], ‘Don’t be ridiculous!’ I reassured her, ‘I’m serious, it’s $5 million plus rider. On the wedding night, you get 45 minutes to an hour.’”

Blum didn’t specify if Lopez agreed to Mars’ asking price, but the wedding ultimately didn’t materialize after she and Rodriguez ended their engagement in April 2021.

Regarding interactions with high-profile performers at events, Blum noted that she and her team “don’t give them an excuse to be difficult” by accommodating their needs. “We’re like, ‘Here we go, and here’s someone who’s going to guide you and so on,’” she said.

Blum also commented that having a celebrity like Mars as the event’s “regular entertainment” is unusual. “No one wants to have their first dance to Coldplay, or maybe they do, but it’s not ideal,” she joked. “What you really want is a good band and maybe a DJ, followed by a 45-minute performance from Chris Martin, Elton John, or whoever you prefer. Otherwise, it becomes all about them.”

Lopez and Rodriguez got engaged after dating for two years in March 2019. They parted ways in March 2021, but they didn’t officially confirm their breakup until the following month.

“Jen truly wishes Alex well,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in June 2022. “She has completely moved on and doesn’t think about Alex at all. Their relationship was filled with drama, which she no longer has time for in her life.”

Rodriguez expressed during a July 2022 episode of “The Martha Stewart Podcast” that he and Lopez “had a great time” during their relationship. He continued, “More importantly, we always prioritized the kids in everything we do.” (Lopez shares her 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Rodriguez has two daughters, Natasha, 20, and Ella, 16, with his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis.)

Lopez has since moved on with Ben Affleck, from whom she filed for divorce after two years of marriage in August. Rodriguez briefly dated Kathryne Padgett in 2022 before finding love with his girlfriend, Jaclyn Cordeiro, later that same year.
