Jenny McCarthy’s Son Shares Adorable, Quirky Facetime Moments with His Girlfriend
Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg are discovering that emulating their parents can be a great compliment for their children.
“When we’re apart, we FaceTime while we sleep,” McCarthy, 52, revealed in the latest Us Weekly cover story about her relationship with her husband. “My son [Evan], who’s now 22, I’ll check on him and find him sleeping with the FaceTime on, cuddled with his pillow and girlfriend.”
McCarthy, who married Wahlberg, 55, in 2014, shared that she notices her son “doing the little things that Donnie does for me” in his own romantic relationship. Previously, Wahlberg had advised her to place their love “at the center,” and now McCarthy feels that observing her son take after them has brought her clarity.
“That’s when I realized, ‘Donnie was absolutely correct,’” McCarthy expressed. “Regardless of how hurt your kids might feel initially, prioritizing yourself is essential. Love will always triumph.”
She admitted that she had been “trained to conceal” her affection, but Wahlberg taught her a different approach. “He encouraged me to demonstrate our love,” she stated. “It’s fine if the kids feel awkward; they’ll move past it because they need to witness what a healthy, loving partnership looks like.”
McCarthy confessed she needed some time to get used to showing public displays of affection around their kids. (McCarthy has a son, Evan, with ex-husband John Asher, while Wahlberg shares sons Xavier, 31, and Elijah, 23, with his first wife Kimberly Fey.)
“Sometimes I would think, ‘Oh my God, your son is here, don’t kiss me.’ It took a little while for me to adapt, but once we embraced that, our kids grew to love each other and became the best of friends,” she recounted.
Wahlberg proudly noted that the relationships between their children reflect his bond with McCarthy. “They resemble us when we were younger. It’s like looking at little versions of ourselves,” Wahlberg remarked, to which McCarthy agreed, “It’s true!”
“We’ve learned through trial and error,” Wahlberg added. “However, seeing how successful this has been for our children and how they are with their partners now is really impressive.”
Wahlberg mentioned that he and McCarthy, who are collaborating on the ID true-crime special Very Scary Lovers, make an effort to keep their marriage “exciting.”
“We absolutely love and are attracted to each other, but we also nurture our bond,” Wahlberg expressed. “That’s how you maintain the spark. We don’t assume that just because it’s been 10 years, we can stop putting in effort. We need to keep doing it.”
