Jessica Gardner Shares Mother’s Day Tribute Following Son Miller’s Passing
Jessica Gardner, spouse of former New York Yankees icon Brett Gardner, marked her first Mother’s Day since the tragic loss of her youngest son, Miller.
On Sunday, May 11, Jessica shared an adorable photo with her oldest son, Hunter, on her Instagram Story.
“I love you,” Jessica captioned the image as they both smiled for the camera.
Hunter, 16, reposted the picture on his own Instagram Story, commenting, “Best mom ever ❤️❤️.”
The Gardner family was on vacation in Costa Rica when Miller tragically died from exposure to toxic gases, including carbon monoxide, on March 21.
Miller’s passing was confirmed in a family statement issued by the Yankees on March 23.

“With great sorrow, we announce the death of our youngest son, Miller,” reads the statement. “At just 14 years old, he has left us far too soon after becoming ill along with several family members during our vacation. We have many questions and few answers, but we know he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of March 21.”
The statement further expressed, “Miller was a cherished son and brother, and we cannot begin to comprehend life without his radiant smile. He enjoyed football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, and adored his family and friends. He lived each day to the fullest. We are grateful for all the support during this challenging time and believe our faith, family, and friends will help us cope with this unimaginable loss. Our thoughts are with Miller’s teammates and friends, as well as all families who have faced the loss of a child too soon.”
The cause of Miller’s death was confirmed by Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigative Agency (OIJ) on April 2.
“In this case, a thorough scientific investigation was conducted, leading to the real facts being established,” OIJ General Director Randall Zúñiga stated to Us Weekly. “During the autopsy, we observed a distinct layer on young Gardner’s organs that forms from carbon monoxide poisoning or gas inhalation. This emphysema was clearly visible during the examination.”
Hunter is trying to find some normalcy following his brother’s tragic passing.
The sophomore at Pinewood Prep Academy in Summerville, South Carolina shared some prom pictures on Instagram last month, where he attended with his girlfriend and friends.
