Joe Alwyn Has Transitioned from His Relationship with Taylor Swift
Joe Alwyn emphasizes that he has fully moved on from his former relationship with Taylor Swift and now hopes the public can do the same.
In an interview with The Guardian, published on Sunday, January 5, the 33-year-old actor stated, “That’s something for other people to do. We’re discussing something that occurred quite a while ago in my life. So that’s for others. That’s how I feel.”
He mentioned that during his time with the 35-year-old singer, he often concentrated on controlling aspects of his life amid her rising fame.
“From the very start, I made it a point to focus on what matters to me: friends, family, and, of course, my work,” he explained. “So when it comes to the noise outside of that, I believe I’ve done what many in the public eye do—try to ignore it. If you don’t, and allow all that external stuff to affect you and your behavior, you’re essentially living from the outside in. And that can be pretty damaging.”
He added, “I have wonderful family and friends, and real things in my life; those are what keep me grounded. I’m not sure how else to express it, it’s just… in a different room.”
The Brutalist star has writing credits on Swift’s album Folklore and three on her album Evermore, created during the COVID-19 pandemic, under the pseudonym William Bowery.
“Lockdown brought a multitude of surprises, and that was quite special,” Alwyn told the Guardian. “That wasn’t something I anticipated.”
Alwyn and Swift were in a relationship for six years before Us Weekly confirmed their separation in April 2023. Many fans believe their breakup inspired elements of Swift’s 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department.
“I hope that anyone can empathize with the challenges that come with ending a long, loving, and committed relationship of over six and a half years,” Alwyn expressed regarding the public reaction to their split in a June 2024 interview with The Sunday Times. “Navigating that is challenging. What makes it unusual is that, just one week later, it becomes public, and the outside world gets to weigh in.”
At that time, Alwyn remarked, “You have something truly real suddenly placed into an unreal space: tabloids, social media, press—where it is then dissected, speculated upon, and distorted beyond recognition. And the truth is, there will always be a gap between what is known and what is said. I’ve come to terms with that.”
He continued, “As everyone knows, we both mutually decided to keep the private details of our relationship just that—private. It was never intended to be commodified, and I see no reason to change that stance now.”
Since their breakup, Swift has begun dating Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, whom she has been romantically linked to since July 2023.
