Joey Lawrence and Wife Samantha Cope Expecting Their Second Child
Joey Lawrence’s spouse, Samantha Cope, is expecting their second child together — his fourth overall — following a brief separation and subsequent reconciliation.
The couple shared the exciting news with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, November 12, during the live taping of the 20th Birthday Party episode of Dancing With the Stars. Lawrence, 49, and Cope, 38, were inquired about their coordinating outfits, to which the actor clarified it was not premeditated.
“Nothing is planned. Not even this,” he said, gesturing towards Cope’s baby bump. “This isn’t planned.”
Cope mentioned that she feels “great” as the couple happily announced they are expecting a baby boy.
“I have the older girls and then our little one, Dylan, who is 3, and now we have this little guy,” Lawrence expressed with enthusiasm. “They are all thrilled. This one is a boy — the first ever — so everyone is excited about adding a little brother to the family. That’s what’s so amazing.”
Lawrence was formerly married to Michelle Vella for three years prior to their 2005 split. He later wed Chandie Yawn-Nelson, with whom he shares daughters Charleston, 19, and Liberty, 15, following their divorce after over 15 years together.
During his divorce from Yawn-Nelson, Lawrence began dating Cope while working on a Lifetime film.
“We met there, and out of nowhere, it was a wild year and a half for everyone, especially with the COVID pandemic,” he exclusively told Us Weekly in 2021. “Then when you least expect it, incredible things unfold, and meeting her has been the best thing ever.”
The couple married in 2022 and welcomed their first child together, daughter Dylan, a year later. Cope filed for divorce after they quietly separated in June 2024. However, by the end of the year, they reconciled, and Us confirmed in December 2024 that Cope had withdrawn her divorce petition.
“Every experience strengthens you if you’re open to putting in the effort,” Lawrence told Us in August. “Life is a wonderfully imperfect, bumpy journey filled with mistakes, and I’m no exception.”
He added: “Relationships require effort. Every connection, whether it’s with friends or family — my brothers Matt, Andy, and I invest significant time in nurturing our bond — continues to evolve as we mature.”
Lawrence emphasized his daily commitment to “putting in the work” across “all my relationships,” especially with Cope.
“I love her immensely, and we’re dedicating each day to strengthening our relationship,” Joey shared. “It feels rewarding to put in that effort and witness the positive outcomes.”
