Aimee Lou Wood from White Lotus Discusses Family Reconciliation with Her Father

The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood’s father is discussing their journey to mend their strained relationship.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, published on Sunday, April 27, Michael Wood—who shares Aimee, 31, and her younger sister Emily with his ex-wife Alison—opened up about how his struggles with addiction led to the decline of his marriage and ultimately distanced him from his daughters.

“I put them through hell and was a poor role model when they were young,” Michael reflected.

At one point, he admitted, he planned a trip to a local pub but instead flew to Japan to witness the 2002 soccer World Cup, disappearing for weeks.

Now, Michael shared that he has been sober for over two decades, seeking help after Alison asked him to leave their family home in Stockport, England.

“I’ve been sober for the last 21 years, and I’m proud of that. It has allowed me to build a closer relationship with my family,” he expressed. “I’m incredibly grateful to be in her life because she and her sister Emily mean the world to me.”

Aimee recently garnered attention for her role as the unfortunate Chelsea in season 3 of The White Lotus, attracting millions of new fans. Prior to this, she was widely recognized for her portrayal of Aimee Gibbs on Netflix’s Sex Education.

“I’m so proud of Aimee and all her accomplishments. She is an amazing actress with a huge heart,” Michael remarked. “The character she portrays in The White Lotus reflects her nature—so sweet and kind.”

Aimee reflected on her childhood in an interview with the U.K.’s Stylist magazine in 2020.

“My [mom] was a constant, steady presence, but overall it was very chaotic,” she shared. “My dad struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and would frequently come and go. He once disappeared for 10 weeks after heading out for a pint, having gone to the World Cup in Korea.”

“He was a party animal in Manchester, socializing with celebrities and Manchester City football players; his large ego gave him a sense of validation,” she added.

Aimee noted that her relationship with her father has improved over time.

“Our relationship has gotten better and better as I’ve grown older,” the actress stated. “I’ve realized I can’t take it personally… I guess therapy has helped me to sort through a lot.”
