Kyle Richards Honors the Memory of Her Beloved Dog, River
Kyle Richards shared the heartbreaking news that her cherished German Shepherd, River, has passed away.
“We said our goodbyes to River yesterday. She was the most loyal dog I’ve ever known,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 56, posted on Instagram on Saturday, May 10. “Being a foster fail, River was incredibly thankful for her rescue and was always by my side. Every day, she would wait at the window for my return. She would sit on the bath mat while I showered and sleep in my room, ensuring she always had a view of me.”
She continued, “We spent the entire day outdoors with her and her siblings. We formed a circle around her, and despite the difficulty in moving her back legs, she came to each of us for a nuzzle. She felt surrounded by love and departed peacefully.”
Richards noted that River was 15 years old.
“I am grateful she is at peace and no longer in pain, but her absence will be deeply felt,” the Bravo star expressed. “We love you, River 💔.”
Richards also posted several photos of River, including one where a young Portia is cuddling her.
Richards has daughters Alexia, 28, Sophia, 25, and Portia, 17, with her estranged husband Mauricio Umansky. She is also the mother of Farrah, 36, from a previous relationship.
Us Weekly confirmed in July 2023 that Richards and Umansky, 54, had separated. Nearly two years later, they have not yet initiated divorce proceedings.
“I knew this day would eventually arrive, but when it came, it was a realization of, ‘Oh, my God, this is happening,’” Richards reflected on Umansky moving out in her Us Weekly cover story from October 2024. “After he and Alexia left, I was overwhelmed with emotions. The chaos of being a married mom of four changed so drastically. Thankfully, I still have two daughters at home.”
Richards added that both Portia and Sophia are often out, leaving her with her six dogs.
“Am I a crazy dog lady? Perhaps,” she joked. “It feels like I have six husbands. It requires a lot of effort! But they bring me joy and a sense of security. They sleep in my room; one sprawls over me, leaving me to sleep at a strange angle just to accommodate her.”
In another interview for her Reality Stars of the Year feature, Richards mentioned that she doesn’t view herself as single.
“I’m uncertain about the future with Mauricio and where we stand. Our love remains strong, which is the easy part,” Richards said. “The challenging aspect is figuring out our next steps. We are not officially divorced; he doesn’t live here, but we are still sorting it out. On the show, some felt entitled to answers, thinking I was holding back information—I’m trying to work through it myself.”
