Lala Kent Refutes Claims of Favoring Newborn Sosa Over Daughter Ocean
Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent is addressing rumors that she shows favoritism toward her newborn daughter Sosa over her older child, Ocean.
In the Wednesday, December 11 episode of her podcast, “Give Them Lala”, Kent, 34, responded to critics who took issue with her description of 2-month-old Sosa as her “dream baby,” explaining, “People are even going as far as to comment, ‘How would you feel if you were Ocean and seeing things like that?’ And I’m like, ‘Why is everyone making a big deal out of nothing?’”
Kent emphasized that Ocean, 3, is her “golden child.”
“She’s my golden child because of everything we went through,” Kent shared, referencing her tumultuous breakup with former fiancé Randall Emmett. “But she’s also the one who made me a mom. She’s incredibly spicy and sweet all at once.”
While clarifying her remarks, Kent stood firm on her characterization of Sosa.
“She’s the dream baby because she wasn’t just the result of two people falling in love and conceiving or a one-night stand,” she elaborated. “She’s the dream baby because I put so much thought into her and contemplated, ‘How will I make this happen?’ I deeply desired another baby on my own, but how do I achieve that?’”
Kent became a mother for the first time when she gave birth to daughter Ocean with Emmett in 2021. Following her breakup with Emmett, she expressed a desire to have more children on her own and documented her pregnancy journey after opting for intrauterine insemination (IUI).
“I won’t even consider another approach. I don’t want anyone else involved,” Kent said, discussing her thoughts on using a sperm donor during a November 2022 episode of “Scheananigans.” “The chances of it not working out, especially where we live, are so high. I’m not willing to take that risk. I’m deeply affected by everything that has happened in my life.”
Kent revealed her pregnancy earlier this year and welcomed Sosa in September.
“Honestly, Ocean is absolutely in love with Sosa,” Kent shared via Instagram at the time. “It was love at first sight. We are thrilled about the new addition to our family. I can’t wait to share all the moments of this new chapter and blessing in our lives. I’ve cherished every second. So much skin-to-skin contact, lots of breastfeeding, and lots of gratitude.”
In Wednesday’s episode, Kent tried to brush off the negative comments related to her choice of words.
“She’s here now and she’s happy and healthy. The family structure I’ve created makes me reflect, ‘Wow, I dreamed of expanding my family on my own, and we did it,’” she expressed. “So I can’t fathom how we got caught up in that conversation because I had to discipline Ocean. All those comments made me feel like I’m not a good parent right now.”
