Danica McKellar Discusses Great American’s Most Heartwarming Christmas Gift
Danica McKellar is experiencing a more thrilling holiday season thanks to her new film from Great American Media, The Greatest Christmas Gift.
“This is a beautiful story,” McKellar, 51, shared exclusively with Us about the movie, which is set to premiere globally on Great American Pure Flix on Saturday, November 29. It will also be aired on Great American Family and GFAM+ on the same day.
The actress notes that viewers might find the storyline familiar as it draws inspiration from The Gift of the Magi, penned by O. Henry in 1905.
McKellar elaborates, “In the original narrative, a couple loves each other so deeply that they sacrifice their most treasured possessions to give their partner the perfect Christmas gift. However, this sacrifice ironically nullifies the gift they received from their spouse.”

In The Gift of the Magi, the woman sells her long hair to buy her husband a watch chain, while the husband trades his grandfather’s watch to purchase a comb for his wife’s beautiful hair.
“Our story is inspired by that with different gifts,” McKellar comments on the upcoming 2026 holiday film by Great American.
The network describes McKellar’s adaptation of the classic tale as centering on a music teacher named Emma Harper (played by McKellar) and her fiancé Caleb Bennett (Matthew Marsden) as they prepare for a beloved Christmas wedding, only to face an unexpected challenge that jeopardizes their future plans.
The logline states, “As their small-town community rallies around them and Christmas approaches, the couple learns that the greatest gifts come not from perfect situations, but from unwavering faith, selfless love, and a supportive community that inspires hope.”
“This is the first Christmas movie where I was already in a relationship with my co-star, as we portray fiancés,” McKellar tells Us. “Naturally, we do get married at the end, and it’s a truly beautiful ceremony. This film offers a different experience for me.”
While the actress can’t reveal too much about how Emma and Caleb navigate their challenges to reach the altar, she assures that the “tragedy of The Gift of the Magi is not as emphasized in this movie.”

McKellar shares, “Viewers will still feel warm and joyful by the end, thanks to the community’s support.”
The Wonder Years star mentions that audiences are in for a “sentimental, sweet, and heartwarming” experience with The Greatest Christmas Gift.
She notes that while the happy ending audiences crave won’t come without a hint of “conflict,” it involves characters that always maintain hope and uplift one another.
“There is always conflict in these movies. The difference is that the characters … they remain hopeful, supporting one another and seeking joy,” McKellar tells Us. “Every challenge carries a sense of hope. You won’t find a character who remains depressed without action.”
Continuing, McKellar states, “Characters may feel sadness, but they’ll also be yearning for something greater, striving to rise above their troubles. The Greatest Christmas Gift reflects that positive spirit and offers options to live life resiliently.”
This holiday season, McKellar is also sharing her talents in two Christmas films for Great American.
She reveals that The Greatest Christmas Gift marks her 14th Christmas movie, following The Christmas Yes List, which she shot earlier this summer for Great American.
“The Christmas Yes List is delightful. It’s a comedy—a genuine rom-com,” McKellar tells Us exclusively, describing her character’s journey after she is denied a promotion, leading her boss to challenge her with “rejection therapy.”
She explains, “My mission involves getting 10 strangers to say ‘no’ before Christmas,” one of whom is Sam Page’s character, whom McKellar humorously describes as “super agreeable.”

“I continually ask him more outrageous favors, and he just keeps saying ‘yes.’ What you don’t know is that he has his own goal of saying ‘yes’ more often,” she reveals. “While I’m trying to get people to say no, he’s on his own adorable mission to say yes.”
McKellar emphasizes that this movie is “incredibly fun” and “distinctly different” from The Greatest Christmas Gift. However, viewers will be able to enjoy both films this holiday season as part of Great American Christmas 2026.
The Greatest Christmas Gift will premiere globally on Great American Pure Flix on Sunday, November 29, and on Great American Family that same evening at 8 p.m. ET. It will also be available for streaming on GFAM+. The debut date for The Christmas Yes List is yet to be announced.
