Lucy Hale Celebrates Four Years of Sobriety After Overcoming Rock Bottom

Lucy Hale is celebrating a significant milestone in her sobriety journey with a heartfelt social media post.

The Pretty Little Liars star, 36, shared on social media on Friday, January 2, providing an emotional update about her health journey.

“Four years ago, I found myself in a very dark place and hit my personal rock bottom. It’s incredible to say, but that moment turned out to be the greatest gift and pivotal point in my life,” she expressed via Instagram.

Hale continued, “The journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been moments of pain, discomfort, loneliness, and deep self-reflection. But sobriety restored my life. I am deeply thankful for every moment that has led me to this point.”

The actress concluded the post with an encouraging message for others facing similar challenges.

“If you’re struggling, remember this: there is always a chance to start over. Keep going. Speak your truth. Seek help. And know that you are deserving of a life you can be proud of. Your existence matters, and so does your story. It DOES get better ❤️,” she shared.

“I’ve come to realize that darkness isn’t always something to fear. Often, it’s what guides us toward the light.”

Followers overwhelmed the comments section with words of encouragement, including Hale’s former PLL co-star, Tyler Blackburn, 39, who wrote, “So proud of you! ❤️”

Ashley Newbrough, 38, who appeared with Hale in The CW drama Privileged, echoed the sentiment, stating, “You radiant thing ❤️ beyond proud of you.”

Hale has been candid about her battle with alcohol dependency over the years, having quit drinking permanently in 2022.

Last year, The Hating Game actress marked her third year of sobriety in another Instagram post.

“Wow. Three years ago today, I embarked on my journey to rediscover who I am,” Hale wrote in her January 2025 post. “Since then, I’ve witnessed moments that can only be described as pure miracles and magic. I am profoundly grateful every day — for the guiding lights in my life, for a greater power that loves me unconditionally, and for my own determination not to give up. To everyone who has supported my journey, your love has meant everything to me.”

Hale also discussed her health journey during a February 2023 appearance on “The Diary of a CEO.”

“I’ve been working on my sobriety since I was 20. I’m 33 now. It takes time, and it demands patience with myself,” she stated during the episode.

She emphasized that enduring change only occurred when she chose to become sober for her own sake, rather than for external motivations.

“I attempted to change for boyfriends, for my mom, for my career, for superficial reasons. ‘I’ll quit drinking for that.’ None of that worked. I had to want sobriety for myself,” Hale explained. “Because I realized, ‘I deserve more. I deserve more from life. I have to try a different approach and commit to it.’”
