Met Gala: Rihanna’s Iconic Dress and Her Fashion Evolution Through the Years
There are countless reasons to appreciate Rihanna, but one of the top reasons is her fearless approach to fashion and beauty on the red carpet.
The founder of Fenty Beauty has delivered some of her most unforgettable looks at the Met Gala. Her debut at the Met Ball was in 2007, where the then-19-year-old dazzled in a white grecian-inspired gown by Georges Chakra, adorned with a crystal-encrusted bodice and styled with black fishnet gloves reminiscent of Madonna.
In 2014, she surprised everyone with a striking crop top and skirt ensemble, but it was in 2015 that the “Anti” artist truly made waves.
“I remember feeling so nervous stepping out of that car because I thought, ‘I’m going overboard,’” she shared in a 2020 interview with Access Hollywood about her stunning yellow Guo Pei cape dress. “As I drove past the red carpet, all I saw were gowns, and I thought, ‘Oh, my God, I look ridiculous. People are going to mock me. This is too much.’ I went around three times, no joke. Finally, I just thought, ‘Whatever, let’s do this. I have no regrets.’”
Since then, the designer of Fenty x Savage has wholeheartedly embraced the art of going all out for every met gala theme. With the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Church” theme in 2018, Rihanna arrived looking like the fashion pope.
Though Rihanna planned to attend the Met in 2024, she unfortunately fell ill and had to miss it. Fans are particularly excited to see her at this year’s event, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” alongside A$AP Rocky, who is co-chairing.
