Navigating the Highs and Lows of Denise Richards’ Relationship with Daughter Sami Sheen
Family turmoil! Denise Richards has faced challenges while raising her daughter Sami after she opted to live with her father, Charlie Sheen.
“Of course, I wish she could live with me,” the actress, 50, remarked in February 2022 on the “Jeff Lewis Has Issues” podcast. “She has lived with me all these years, but parenting teenagers today, especially in Los Angeles, is tough.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum shared that her home has “certain rules that I uphold,” while her ex-husband Sheen, 56, maintains “different rules in his home, which is fine.”
Richards was married to the Two and a Half Men star from 2002 until their divorce in 2006, and together, they have 18-year-old Sami and 17-year-old Lola. (Richards also adopted a daughter named Eloise in 2011, while Sheen is the father to 12-year-old twins Bob and Max, whom he shares with ex-wife Brooke Mueller.)
Both daughters lived with Richards initially, but in September 2021, Sami took to TikTok to express that she felt “trapped in an abusive home” while living with her mother and her husband, Aaron Phypers.
“Now: I’ve finally moved out of the hell house, had a spiritual awakening, own 2 cats, happy being single, full of self-love, and dropped out of high school :),” Sami shared on social media. Later that month, Sheen confirmed that his eldest daughter had moved in with him and was pursuing her GED.
“I love her—and all my children—unconditionally. We’re having a great time. GED here we come!” he stated through his publicist.
An exclusive source told Us Weekly at that time that Richards felt “saddened” by the situation but “deeply loves her daughter.”
The mother-daughter duo reconnected to commemorate Mother’s Day in May, with Sami giving a glimpse of their reunion.
“Happy Mother’s Day!! I love you so much, Mom. You have no idea how grateful I am to have you in my life 💗💐🥂,” Sami captioned Instagram selfies featuring her mother.
Richards responded to the post, saying, “Thank you, Sami, for a wonderful Mother’s Day. It means so much to me. I know Nana would have joined us for dinner; she would never skip one of her favorite restaurants. 🙏🏻 Thank you & I love you dearly ❤️.”
