Netflix Unveils Plans for Jessica Simpson Documentary Set to Release in 2027

An exciting Jessica Simpson documentary is headed to Netflix.

The streaming platform revealed on Thursday, August 20, that Robbie Williams director Joe Pearlman will be directing a special feature on Simpson, who is 46. Set for release in 2027, the documentary will have the Newlyweds star inviting “cameras back in to tell all,” as stated by Netflix’s Tudum.

The project will be produced by former MTV executive Van Toffler and executive produced by Pearlman, Gunpowder & Sky, along with Jonathan Silberberg.

Pearlman is a distinguished documentary filmmaker, recognized with BAFTA, Emmy, and Grammy nominations. He has previously directed Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now for Netflix and Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts for HBO Max. Earlier this month, he also directed Mourinho, a three-part documentary centered on former Chelsea football manager José Mourinho, for Netflix.

Simpson debuted her first studio album, Sweet Kisses, in 1999, which sold 2 million copies across the United States, with the lead single “I Wanna Love You Forever” reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Her second studio album, Irresistible, was released in 2001, and the title track made it to the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Following this, Simpson released five more albums: In This Skin (2003), ReJoyce: The Christmas Album (2004), A Public Affair (2006), Do You Know (2008), and Happy Christmas (2010).

While pursuing her music career, Simpson also became a reality TV star through her and ex-husband Nick Lachey’s MTV series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which aired from 2003 to 2005. (Simpson’s marriage to Lachey, 52, lasted from 2002 to 2006.) Additionally, she launched a fashion line during the early 2000s and published her memoir, Open Book, in 2020.

After a 15-year hiatus from music, Simpson made her comeback last year with her EPs Nashville Canyon: Part 1 and Part 2. These releases followed the author’s separation from husband Eric Johnson after nearly 11 years of marriage. (Simpson and Johnson, 46, are parents to Maxwell, 14, Ace, 13, and Birdie, 7.)

Jessica Simpson is gearing up for her return to the stage! The 44-year-old performer made her live debut after a decade during the Recording Academy’s Austin Chapter Block Party at SXSW in Austin, Texas on March 12. “Last night was my first performance in 15 years,” she shared on her Instagram account […]

“#NashvilleCanyon reflects my journey of reconnecting with my heart, liberated from the pressure of the industry,” Simpson expressed via Instagram in March 2025. “It’s about allowing my voice to guide me and trusting the path ahead, while always inviting God into the space where music is born, speaking from a place of spiritual grace and liberation.”

Following her split from Johnson, Simpson has started dating boyfriend Tom Eisenhood, whom she began seeing earlier this year.

“Tom joined Jessica on tour intermittently over the past few months,” a source informed Us in June, noting that the Nashville-based audio engineer, previously part of the band Stoop Kids, has deep roots in the music industry.

“He does a lot of touring, so they spent significant time together while working closely,” the insider added. “He’s a down-to-earth guy, and Jessica appreciates that about him.”
