Pete Davidson Asserts He’s Not Just a ‘Loser Who Dates Around’
Pete Davidson wishes to be recognized for his craft rather than as “this f—ing loser who dates people.”
The Saturday Night Live veteran shared his thoughts with W Magazine regarding how public perception has influenced both his personal and professional spheres.
“I just want to be acknowledged for producing high-quality work,” stated Davidson, 31. “I prefer public appearances tied to movies, stand-up, charity, or business endeavors. I don’t want to be known as some f—ing loser who simply dates people. That isn’t my identity.”
Despite his wishes, Davidson’s dating life has attracted significant attention. The comedian was briefly engaged to Ariana Grande and has also been linked to several high-profile celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, Cazzie David, Emily Ratajkowski, and Madelyn Cline.
Reflecting on his time in the spotlight — which involved an eight-season tenure on SNL, a lead role in the semi-autobiographical film The King of Staten Island, and serving as both star and executive producer for the 2019 comedy Big Time Adolescence — Davidson admits he was “oversaturated.”
“In The Sopranos, there’s a line where Tony says, ‘You ever feel like you got into something at the end? When the good times were over?’ That’s how I perceive show business and celebrity status. It’s all in the past,” he noted.
He continued, “I made the error of doing virtually everything. Now that I’m older and wiser, I realize that less is often more.”
Consequently, Davidson has been keeping a lower profile lately, focusing on a rather unexpected venture: socks. Recently appointed as the creative director of the vibrant sock brand Doublesoul, he described the product as “comfortable and stylish, with a cool name.” Collaborating with founders Ben Rosenbaum and Allison Strumeyer, Davidson quickly pitched ideas that, according to Strumeyer, showcased “his profound insight into what resonates culturally.”
Davidson isn’t stopping there. Aware that his distinctive fashion sense has captured the attention of fans, he seems to genuinely embrace his eccentric personal style.
The actor expressed interest in pursuing more opportunities in the fashion industry — as long as it allows him to stay “behind the scenes” without becoming the type of celebrity that imposes their brand on followers.
This shift in focus marks a significant change from his previous acting and comedic roles, and Davidson appears to be welcoming the new direction.
“People dislike celebrities nowadays,” he observed. “The media picks a few celebrities every few years to vilify. For some reason, I’m one of the targets. In a way, it’s a blessing, as it has allowed me to step back and reconsider things.”
As he reflects, Davidson no longer views himself as that “loser who dates people.”
“That voice was quite loud in my head for a time,” he confessed.
