Which Couples from ‘The Ultimatum’ Remain Together?
Following three seasons of “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On,” the Netflix dating show has revealed an unexpected success rate.
For those unfamiliar, each season of “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On” showcases several couples at a crossroads, with one partner eager to marry and the other uncertain.
After a brief breakup, the contestants date other participants and choose new partners for a three-week trial marriage. Ultimately, they reunite with their original partners to determine whether they wish to get engaged, break up, or begin a new relationship with their trial partner.
This journey is challenging: Every season sees at least two participants leaving the experiment prematurely. In Season 3, which premiered on December 4, four contestants acknowledged that the show was not suitable for them and left swiftly. The remaining cast members pushed through the emotionally intense experience, building connections and facing hard truths about their relationships.
At the conclusion of the latest season, two couples became engaged while the other two parted ways. Continue reading to learn which couples from Season 3 are still together. Also, catch up with the stars of Seasons 1 and 2 to see their current status.
Season 1
Shanique Brown and Randall Griffin
Relationship status: Engaged
At the conclusion of his journey on the show, Randall Griffin expressed his reflections on the obstacles he and Shanique Brown encountered throughout the experience. He described Shanique as his best friend and revealed he had always envisioned marrying her — leading to his proposal.
She accepted, and they shared an embrace. Soon after, they excitedly proclaimed, “We’re engaged!” to the camera.
However, during the Season 1 reunion, co-host Vanessa Lachey pointed out that Shanique was not wearing her engagement ring. Shanique clarified that the issues they had discussed on the show persisted upon their return to reality. Consequently, they separated for six months. Shanique later referred to this period as “the hardest time of her life,” though she eventually shared that they had reconciled and were committed to working on their relationship.
In July 2023, Randall proposed once more. They celebrated their engagement with a joint Instagram post.
Their post featured a series of photos capturing the proposal moment, along with a close-up of Shanique’s stunning diamond ring. “Yes! — Today and all of our tomorrows,” she wrote in the caption, complemented by an infinity symbol and a white heart.

After concluding his relationship with April during the Season 1 finale, Jake turned his attention to Rae, with whom he shared his first trial marriage. Jake suggested embarking on an adventure, stating that he had two tickets to anywhere in the world and wanted Rae to join him. She agreed, and they departed together, hand in hand.

Season 3
Sandy Gallagher and Nick Tramontin
Relationship status: Broken up
Among the Season 3 contestants, Nick found himself struggling the most within the show’s format. He was compelled to continue his first trial marriage alone after Vanessa departed. This led him to spiral, worrying Sandy was developing feelings for her trial marriage partner, J.R.
Sandy disclosed to TODAY.com that this aspect of the experiment negatively impacted her relationship with Nick, ultimately contributing to their breakup. On “Decision Day,” both expressed their love and mentioned personal growth throughout the show, though when Nick appeared to reach for a ring, (later revealed to be a letter) Sandy panicked. His interpretation of her reaction gave him clarity, and they parted ways after a brief disagreement regarding their relationship.
“I will always love him and care for him as a person,” Sandy explained to TODAY.com. “That connection is far greater than this show and our experiences. However, it doesn’t necessitate that we date or marry.”
During the reunion, Nick announced he had moved on and was in a new relationship.
Jon Richard “J.R.” Warren and Zaina Sesay
Relationship status: Broken up
When Zaina showed up on “Decision Day,” she was anxious yet optimistic about the possibility of an engagement. “You have shown me so much love and support. I want to thank you for that,” J.R. expressed. “I wasn’t ready to receive it previously.”
However, he noted he still had personal development to complete and was not prepared for the next stage in their relationship. Zaina shared with TODAY.com that she felt completely blindsided by J.R.’s final choice.
“It was just harsh because throughout the trial marriage, he kept saying the right things that led me to believe he had hope for our future,” she recalled. “I thought we’d leave together, or at least remain in a relationship outside of the show.”
During the reunion, tension lingered as they debated what led to their breakup. Zaina felt that J.R. lacked clear communication post-show, leaving her uncertain about their status. J.R. defended himself, claiming he communicated his need for space but that Zaina didn’t grasp it.
Despite their difficulties, Zaina appreciated J.R.’s support, especially in regards to freezing her eggs after their time on the show.
Aria De’Westbrooks and Scotty Lewis
Relationship status: Broken up
Throughout their journey on “The Ultimatum,” Aria and Scotty often found themselves misaligned. They frequently argued and questioned if they were compatible as a couple. Meanwhile, Aria formed a bond with her trial husband, Caleb, who proved to be more understanding and supportive than Scotty.
However, on Decision Day, Scotty promised to deliver the love Aria had been yearning for. “Above everything, I want you to know that I choose you, today and all my tomorrows. You are not just a woman I want to be with, you are the one I can’t be without,” he said before proposing. Aria tearfully accepted, and they exited the show as an engaged couple.
At the reunion, Aria shared that she experienced an immediate change of heart, breaking off the engagement the very next day. She became emotional while conveying that she felt Scotty did not fulfill his promises. She mentioned asking Scotty to attend couples therapy, but he postponed, leading to their eventual split.
In an interview with TODAY.com, Scotty expressed his regrets about his behavior on the show. “I brought a lot of my personal pain into this experience. I realize I hurt Aria, who was genuinely putting in effort. I wish I could take that back. I wish I could convey to her how much she means to me,” he reflected.
Caleb Storm and Mariah Zernik
Relationship status: Engaged
Mariah, the youngest participant in Season 3, issued an ultimatum to Caleb, who was uncertain about being the right partner for her. Through his trial marriage with Aria, Caleb gained newfound confidence, supported by Aria’s encouragement.

At the reunion, Mariah showcased her engagement ring, confirming their happiness together. The episode featured adorable photos and videos from a West Coast road trip where the couple shared their engagement news with their families face-to-face.
However, tension arose when Aria disclosed that Caleb had liked some of her Instagram content and had not fully communicated the events of their first trial marriage. Mariah became emotional, expressing how challenging it was to relive the moments on-screen where Caleb appeared so attached to Aria.
He apologized for not being forthcoming, stating that he wished to protect Mariah’s feelings.
Chanel Watkins and Micah Hardeman
Relationship status: Dating
Chanel and Micah’s experience during Season 3 ended suddenly as they were one of two couples to leave during the initial trial marriages. “Earlier that day, Dave, Vanessa, Micah, and Chanel had an off-camera meeting,” a title card presented in Episode 4 stated, “That evening, surveillance footage captured them packing.”
While co-host Nick Lachey mentioned during the reunion that the four participants were invited, he disclosed that Micah and Chanel had opted out of attending. Micah addressed this on his Instagram story on December 18, the day of the reunion’s airing: “Once you walkaway from something, there’s no need for a ‘reunion’ — especially when honesty isn’t elemental,” he remarked.
Chanel provided a more detailed explanation on her social media platforms. She noted that numerous aspects made her feel “very uncomfortable.” Chanel also shared that Micah and Vanessa were similarly navigating troubling experiences.
It appears Chanel and Micah are still together, as they uploaded a joint post on December 16 showcasing a sweet moment from a recent date night.
Vanessa Hattaway and Dave Adams
Relationship status: Dating
The second couple to exit early was Vanessa and Dave. They chose to attend the reunion together, discussing their reasons for leaving the show. When Nick, Vanessa’s trial marriage partner, inquired why she didn’t say goodbye or provide an explanation, she responded that she felt no obligation to do so after only a few days of knowing him. She also mentioned that Nick’s behavior during their trial marriage contributed to her decision to leave.
Vanessa expressed that Nick’s emotional struggles began on their first day together, leading to a “rollercoaster” experience, as he worried about Sandy’s connection with J.R. She noted her attempts to be supportive, stating that Nick often appeared distant and reluctant to accept her help.
Dave expressed that he wished to leave because, “it just felt like the experience became unnecessary at some point.” He added, “I learned a lot about myself. I recognized this is my person, and I am ready to go now.”
He confirmed that even before they selected their new partners, he was certain about wanting to leave.
Vanessa stated that the show facilitated their progress as a couple. Dave nodded in agreement, noting they began planning their future immediately after leaving. “I’m still 100% eager to marry Vanessa, and that is undoubtedly the next step,” he affirmed.
