Queen Camilla’s Bold Transformation to Mirror Princess Kate

Although Princess Anne typically chooses a sparkling lipstick and Princess Beatrice often styles a bold red lip, Queen Camilla has preferred to stay within the bounds of traditional beauty aesthetics.

It was unexpected when the Queen Consort drew inspiration from the Princess of Wales for a recent photoshoot, adopting a look from her daughter-in-law’s beauty repertoire.

Since her debut in the public eye, Princess Kate has consistently utilized a reliable makeup style, characterized by black eyeliner and generously applied mascara. She even opted for dramatic black eyeliner during her wedding to Prince William, despite some critics claiming it was excessively harsh.

Queen Camilla’s Updated Look

Given how stunning dark eye makeup appears on Princess Kate, it’s understandable that Queen Camilla chose to experiment with it as well, embracing fluttery lashes and deep eyeliner for a recent photoshoot promoting her charity, The Queen’s Reading Room.

Clad in a festive red ensemble, 77-year-old Queen Camilla enhanced her glamour with the intense eyeliner and lashes, making her striking blue eyes stand out.

“Black eyeliner can enhance eye color and create a fierce look,” says makeup artist Aimee Connolly, highlighting the impact of black makeup on blue eyes.

“Black is a timeless choice,” concurs makeup artist Lisa Caldognetto, praising the impact of black liner. “The richness of the color beautifully complements any eye color.”

To enhance her natural blue eyes further, it seems Queen Camilla has opted for clusters of false lashes, providing a more subtle effect compared to strip lashes, which can often look too dramatic.

True to form, the Queen Consort has collaborated closely with London-based makeup artist Marina Sandoval for over 15 years, beginning when Marina was attending to the royal’s nails.

In discussing Her Majesty’s signature look, the makeup artist shared with Harper’s Bazaar: “I typically go for a light, natural color as a base, often opting for tinted moisturizer depending on the season.”

In her approach to preparing the Queen for her 2022 Coronation, Marina emphasized the eyes: “I wanted her beautiful blue eyes to pop, so I used a very black liquid eyeliner and a deeply pigmented mascara.”

“For me, the key factor is what the Queen is wearing on that day—not just the designer but the color of the outfit and whether the event is indoors or outdoors. The Queen has her very own sense of style that matches well with my natural makeup approach.”
