Richard Gadd, the Baby Reindeer Star, Shares How He Celebrates His Awards

Richard Gadd has captured the attention of awards ceremonies following the success of his inaugural Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer, yet he chooses not to prominently display most of his accolades.

“Believe it or not, I tend to give away most of my awards,” Gadd, 35, shared with Variety at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, February 22. “I never want to disclose their location for fear that someone might break into my home since some are quite valuable now, but [my mom has] a few, let’s just say.”

He went on to state, “I think I have around two awards at home. I’ve kept one of the three Emmys and I believe I have an Olivier.”

The narrative for Baby Reindeer, which draws from Gadd’s own experiences with abuse, has garnered him honors at major events like the Emmy Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. Just recently, he secured the Independent Spirit trophy for Best Lead in a New Scripted Series.

Perhaps I’ll receive a few texts.’ But the moment it launched, my phone was flooded with messages,” the creator and star of the show remarked.

Each time Gadd gives away a trophy, he ensures to express his appreciation for the backing he’s received.

“I say, ‘Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I’m here and alive because of you. Here’s an award to show my gratitude,’” Gadd relayed to Variety. “My journey has had its challenges, but I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of wonderful people support me, and I owe these awards to them.”

The Scottish actor is looking forward to potentially adding to his accolades at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, February 23, where he has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

“Oddly enough, I’ve been listening to a band called Rap Bag lately,” Gadd revealed regarding his pre-SAG routine. “They’re quite niche, but their haunting melody is simply mesmerizing.”

Gadd is in contention for a SAG Award alongside Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Kevin Kline (Disclaimer), and Andrew Scott (Ripley).

Additionally, Gadd’s Baby Reindeer costar Jessica Gunning, who portrayed Martha in the Netflix series, has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series. Her category includes nominees such as Kathy Bates (The Great Lillian Hall), Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country), Lily Gladstone (Under the Bridge), and Cristin Milioti (The Penguin).
