Selena Gomez Shares Insights on Martin Short’s Playful Interaction with Her Engagement Ring
Selena Gomez recently discussed a viral moment where Martin Short was seen playing with her engagement ring during the 2025 Golden Globes.
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live on January 6, Gomez, 32, clarified what fans interpreted as Short, 44, admiring her ring from Benny Blanco at the prestigious event.
“Marty is checking out your engagement ring,” Kimmel, 57, remarked as he showed a clip of Short touching Gomez’s marquise diamond while seated beside her.
“He’s twisting it,” she explained. “I wasn’t sure what he was doing. That’s why I looked confused.”
When Kimmel inquired if Short was complimenting its design, Gomez responded, “He was curious about what was going on. I don’t think he was too concerned. Maybe he had a little [too much to drink].”

After sharing a laugh, Kimmel asked whether Blanco, 36, had sought permission from either Short or Steve Martin — Gomez’s co-star in Only Murders in the Building — to propose.
“He didn’t, but I suspect Marty wasn’t thrilled about that,” Gomez joked. “He threw in a little joke or two.”
Gomez also revealed that Martin, 79, sent an email to her assistant to congratulate her, saying, “That’s how he communicates. It’s sweet, but a little text would suffice too,” she playfully remarked.
Gomez and Blanco announced their engagement on Instagram last month, sharing delightful images, including a close-up of her ring, which features a prominent center stone on a gold band surrounded by smaller diamonds.
Later that month, the ring designers, Katherine Theofilos Claster and Stephanie Theofilos, spoke to Page Six about the custom design process with Blanco.
“Benny, a wonderfully creative individual, had [a] specific inspiration, including the center cut, the marquise,” Theofilos explained, noting he had a clear vision of what he wanted. She added that Blanco was “instantly captivated” by the marquise diamond, which “embodies the essence of an heirloom piece with a contemporary touch.”
