Sheriff Country’s Michele Weaver Speaks Out on Whether She Was Written Off
An Sheriff Country star has clarified whether they were “written off” following an extended absence from the screen.
Michele Weaver, who portrays Cassidy, posted on Instagram on Friday, May 8, explaining her recent absence from episodes. She stated, “People keep asking if I was written off. Nope… just had to step away to have a baby.”
She added, “I’m back next week! Don’t miss tonight’s episode! If you think you know what’s going to happen next… trust me.. you don’t.”
In an April episode of the popular CBS series, Cassidy finally cracked the case of her missing sister, which involved her being kidnapped by a serial killer responsible for years of murders.
Fortunately, Mickey (Morena Baccarin) rescued Cassidy just in time, but the deputy requested some time off. The episode concluded with Cassidy and her mother driving away in her car, taking time to heal from their loss.
The network has already renewed Sheriff Country for a second season, with Weaver, 36, expected to return as Cassidy. The show also features Baccarin, Christopher Gorham, Matt Lauria, and W. Earl Brown, with Amanda Arcuri and Ian Quinlan elevated to series regulars for the upcoming season.
Concerns over Cassidy’s future emerge following Sheriff Country‘s predecessor, Fire Country, which faced criticism after budget cuts resulted in the departure of Billy Burke and Stephanie Arcila.
“It’s a fire show. Anyone can go at any time,” showrunner Tia Napolitano informed Us Weekly in October 2025. “But in terms of losing people, we’re also introducing some really exciting guest cast members. It’s a revolving door of characters from Sharon’s past and new faces that will bring conflict, secrets, and unexpected twists.”
Napolitano hinted that the show will strive to “spice it up” while maintaining a “fine line” of paying tribute to losses.
“What we’ve done is carefully honor — especially Vince — because Gabriella is gone to a happy and successful life. She’s still out there. But we really walk this line of acknowledging Vince while also finding hope rather quickly,” she remarked. “Looking ahead, the season’s theme is about rising from the ashes and recovery.”
Napolitano further explained, “How do you recover from something like this? And we’re really going to see everyone rise to the occasion, celebrating Vince, his life, and honoring his sacrifice.”
Following her conversation with Us, it was announced that Napolitano would also be leaving the show. In March, it was revealed that Eric Guggenheim would take over for Napolitano, having previously served as showrunner for Magnum P.I. and co-showrunner for Hawaii Five-0.
Sheriff Country airs on CBS on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Fire Country at 9 p.m. ET. New episodes will be available for streaming the next day on Paramount+.
