Sister Wives Star Meri Brown Discusses Her Current Dating Life

Meri Brown has concluded her journey with plural marriage, but she remains optimistic about finding her happy ending someday.

“I’m eager for the right person to enter my life and to cultivate that relationship,” she shared with TODAY.com.

The “Sister Wives” star made waves in January 2023 when she and her ex-husband Kody Brown announced the “permanent termination” of their marriage after more than 30 years.

After her split from Kody, Meri moved to Utah to take some time for herself before re-entering the dating scene.

“I needed time to process everything and thought, ‘Wow, this is final. It’s really over, and it feels strange.’ Now, I’m ready to move forward and things have been positive,” she reflects.

Meri mentions that she is currently dating, but “not exclusively with anyone.”

“I believe it will happen when the time is right — when I meet the right person who is ready for me and I’m prepared for him,” she says.

Looking ahead, Meri hopes to find a partner who is distinct from her ex in at least one regard.

“I definitely don’t want to meet someone named Kody. Now that I’ve said it, it could very well happen! I guess as long as he spells it with a ‘c,’ it would work,” she jokes.

Meri has a clear picture of the kind of man she’d like to welcome into her life.

My ideal match is someone who is confident, takes charge, and inspires me to be my best self. He lets me pursue my own interests while also encouraging me and matching my energy. He really needs to resonate with my vibe,” she explains.

Meri and Kody tied the knot in 1990, later inviting three other women — Janelle, Christine, and Robyn — into their plural marriage. Christine and Kody announced their separation in 2021, and the following year, Janelle and Kody declared they had also separated. Christine has since found love again.

For nearly a decade towards the end of their marriage, Meri and Kody lived separately. Throughout this period, Meri wanted to mend their relationship, while Kody appeared content to leave her in uncertainty.

The TLC star admits that understanding what she desires in her next relationship, given her previous one, has been “a journey.”

“I’m consciously working through any past issues, trauma, or experiences because I don’t want to carry that into a new relationship,” she states.

In light of this, Meri has been focusing on personal growth to ensure she is emotionally prepared for love when it arrives.

“I don’t want to bring old baggage into this new chapter, and I don’t want my future partner to do so either. So, therapy is essential,” she notes.

In January 2024, the reality star shared that she was seeing someone. A month later, she disclosed that the relationship had ended.

Meri found it nerve-wracking to publicly share her first relationship post-plural marriage, but she views it as part of her journey as she explores this new phase of her life.

“Having the experience of dating someone exclusively for a while was truly thrilling,” she reveals.

For the time being, Meri is simply enjoying the process of dating.

“I’ve met a broad spectrum of people, and some are like, ‘Nah, not for me,’ while others I think, ‘I’d definitely go for a second date.’ It’s fascinating to see the various types of men out there and to learn more about myself during this journey, including what I want and need,” she expresses.
