The Hidden Message in Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’ Lyric Video
Following the release of Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s track “Don’t Wanna Cry” on Friday, March 21, the official lyric video unveiled a charming hidden easter egg in Gomez’s outfit.
Though only the lyric video has been unveiled so far, it features a collection of camcorder-style clips from this photo, which doubles as the cover art for the vinyl album.
In the moment captured, Blanco, 37, is holding Gomez, 33, who sports an oversized black men’s T-shirt emblazoned with the number “11” in bold, eye-catching yellow text.
Even when viewed through the dreamy, hazy lens, it was apparent that Gomez’s choice of number was no coincidence. Eleven carries significant meaning as it refers to a date that signifies a monumental milestone for the couple: December 11, 2024, the day she announced her engagement to Blanco on Instagram with the heartfelt caption: “Forever begins now.”
Additionally, on March 11, 2025, Gomez shared a nostalgic photo from their first date. “Our first date was on Sunset Blvd, and it’s also the title of our next song together 🖤” she captioned a black-and-white snapshot of them cozying up on the couch after enjoying shrimp curry on Sunset Boulevard. (They even revisited the same dinner the night before.)
Fans of Gomez know she has a deep appreciation for numerology, a passion reflected in her growing tattoo collection that includes significant dates and numbers similar to her December 11 engagement.
Gomez has her mother’s birthday in Roman numerals tattooed on the back of her neck; a tattoo on her left hip commemorates the day she met one of her closest friends; the number “1” on her rib cage represents Courtney Lopez, whom she referred to as her “actual #1” in a birthday tribute along with a photo showcasing their matching tiny tattoos; the “4” on her forearm is shared by Lopez and two other friends; the date inked on her right arm commemorates the surgery she underwent for a kidney transplant, a tattoo she shares with her friend and kidney donor Francia Raisa.
Moving to the present, Gomez continues to express her emotions openly, which might explain her preference for the vinyl over digital album art.
In an Instagram Story video that Blanco shared and Gomez reshared, she excitedly displayed the vinyl album for the camera. Overjoyed, she couldn’t help but laugh beside her fiancé, who initiated the segment, saying: ‘Guys, this is [the] brand new cover for vinyl and this is direct-to-consumer,” he exclaimed. “Can you believe that?”
“This is actually my favorite,” Gomez exclaimed while expressing Blanco’s excitement over the album being exclusively available on her website. “And it’s real pur-ddy,” she added with a hint of her Texas accent.
Although “11” was not explicitly written on her T-shirt at the time, the expression of love was unmistakable. The same can be said for a subsequent video that depicted the pair snuggled up in bed as they alternated signing copies of their new vinyl that lay scattered across the sheets.
If that doesn’t scream happiness, we’re not sure what does. However, it’s clear that more joyful moments are in store for this couple, along with potentially more stylish easter eggs as they continue to share their album journey leading up to the altar and beyond.
