The Real-Life Faces Behind Fallout: Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins
Fallout has made significant efforts to portray its cast in a way that markedly differs from their real-life appearances in the video game adaptation.
Inspired by the eponymous video game series, Fallout is set hundreds of years after a nuclear catastrophe has forced humanity to seek shelter in fallout shelters known as Vaults. The story follows a young woman named Lucy (Ella Purnell) as she ventures beyond the Vaults to search for her missing father, facing perilous creatures and characters on her journey.
The series features stars such as Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, and Xelia Mendes-Jones. Following its premiere on Prime Video in April 2024, Fallout was renewed for a second season just days later. In May 2025, ahead of the second season’s release, the show was already confirmed for a third season.
“This show isn’t political in the way that the writers don’t stand on a soapbox and preach,” Goggins remarked to Deadline in December 2025. “You’re part of a narrative that aligns interestingly with current global events, and it really comes down to timing, more than anything else. That’s where we find ourselves in Fallout. Thankfully, we approach it with absurdity, satire, and genuine consequences.”
Goggins shared what resonated with him most, saying, “Everyone in this show aims to change the world; they simply have different methods.”
“It captures where the show stands, what it’s communicating, and echoes the themes present in the Fallout game,” he continued. “There are various conflicting factions, reminiscent of the reality we face today. Each has its unique perspective on what the solution should be, right? We all have our individual views.”
Goggins added: “The Ghoul truly represents the lone figure here, yearning to be united with his family. Conversely, the other tribes aim to rebuild society in their own ways, which mirrors real-world dynamics. After a catastrophe, diverse political groups emerge, and each tries to reconstruct things in a manner they envision.”
