Hailee Steinfeld encourages you to elevate your game… and by that, we mean ‘Hy’ – as in, Nexxus’s latest Hy Volume line. During her visit to The Peninsula Hotel in NYC, Steinfeld radiated positivity, dressed in a lilac sweater that mirrored the product’s packaging and showcasing a vibrant blowout, as if she were gliding through the atmosphere. Those fluffy, cotton-candy clouds surrounding her certainly added to the whimsy.

Several factors likely contribute to Steinfeld’s uplifting presence. Foremost, she has become accustomed to the bright lights of fame, having stepped into the limelight at just 14 with roles in “True Grit,” “The Edge of 17,” and “Dickinson.” Additionally, with her impending marriage to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, one can’t help but attribute some of her glow to that joyful milestone. Another element adding to her buoyancy? Disconnecting from the chaos of life.

“I’ve been concentrating on taking breaks and focusing on rest,” she shares. “It’s intertwined with my entire wellness approach.” As someone often labeled a “workhorse” juggling various commitments, Steinfeld makes it a point to carve out personal time. “I’ve gotten adept at appreciating even two minutes—I seize those moments and maximize them.”

In those rare moments, whether it’s stepping outside or catching up with a friend (she finds it even better when she can combine both activities), her morning routine becomes instrumental in grounding her. Steinfeld savors her slow-paced mornings. “Waking up early to exercise isn’t my favorite, but I make it a priority to challenge myself both mentally and physically each day. That’s a must for me.” Her benchmark? At least 15 minutes. “It genuinely lifts my spirits; I come out feeling revitalized and prepared to take on whatever comes next.”

Though she adheres to a “less is more” philosophy regarding her self-care habits—don’t expect any “5-to-9 before my 9-5” videos from her—her beauty regimen is where she lets her creativity shine. This is clearly showcased in the playful video she designed for the Nexxus Hy Volume line, which includes the Hy-Volume Weightless Lift Shampoo, Conditioner, and Styling Foam ($48 for the complete set). “This campaign is about being bold and extravagant with your hair while aligning your confidence to that same level of vibrancy.”

In the clip, Steinfeld showcases a voluminous blowout that draws comparisons to the styles of iconic figures like Dolly Parton and Cindy Crawford. “Just go a bit wild with your blow dryer and some rollers, and voilà – magic happens,” she remarks.

This collaboration with the drugstore hair-care brand has been a long time coming. “Nexxus has been part of my life for as long as I can remember,” she explains. Like many others, she grew up using Nexxus products. Despite the changes in her life and career, her fondness for the brand has remained strong.

While the “Get Hy” campaign displayed her grand aesthetics, her current look during our chat features a chic bob haircut. “Deciding to cut my hair was up there on the list of things I thought about but hesitated to actually do,” she shares, until she finally decided, “Let’s just go for it.”

Regardless of the looks she tries out, her constant beauty mantra is to celebrate one’s natural beauty. Is it a bit clichéd? She acknowledges so, but believes it is essential for both inner and outer confidence. “Allowing your true beauty to shine through and finding self-assurance makes any makeup or hairstyle look even better,” she insists.

However, she doesn’t shy away from enhancing her features with makeup—indeed, she enjoys highlighting her beauty marks. A less-known trick Steinfeld uses is applying eyeliner or lip liner over them to ensure they remain visible even when she’s donning heavier makeup.

You will definitely find popular picks in Steinfeld’s everyday makeup routine. Each morning and night, she uses the Christie Kidd Clean Natural Facial Cleanser ($34). “It has proven to be reliable; it effortlessly removes all my makeup, leaving my skin fresh every night.” Other cherished items include the Kosas Concealer ($32), Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara ($35), Patrick Ta Blush ($38), “in any shade because they’re all stunning,” and the Make Up For Ever Whatever Walnut Lip Liner ($24). Recently, she has also become intrigued by LED light therapy, thanks to a gift of a mask. “I’ve been using the little handheld device for ages, which I adore, but I’m excited to try the mask now,” she shares.

“Life will take you through a journey of planned and unplanned paths – embrace it all while showing yourself kindness along the way.”

Her bag always contains three essentials: a spoolie for her brows, a travel-size dry shampoo, and the Neutrogena Collagen Bank SPF ($19), a brand she has previously collaborated with.

With that said, one seeks more effectiveness and impact from their routine than any beauty product or regimen, which is a stronger emphasis on mental well-being. “I have a passion for my work; it’s in my DNA. I’m so thankful I can engage in something I love so much that often doesn’t feel like work,” she reflects. “However, because of how much I value it, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.”

Her body serves as a signal when it’s time for a pause. “I’ve gained insight about my boundaries and what makes me genuinely content.” Her key piece of advice, whether you’re managing the fast-paced Hollywood lifestyle or a standard 9-to-5 job, is to focus on what matters most and embrace patience—with yourself and your journey. “Life will take you down roads you have mapped out and those you have not; just embrace each experience and treat yourself with kindness throughout.”
