Tom Brady Discusses Netflix Roast and Family Reactions

Tom Brady has expressed one regret regarding Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady.

“It’s challenging for my kids, for sure,” Brady, 47, noted during his appearance on the “Impaulsive” podcast on Tuesday, May 6. “I went in not knowing what to expect, but I enjoy laughing at myself.”

While the ex-NFL star felt the May 2024 roast was reminiscent of being in the “locker room,” his family perceived it differently.

“The more intense the jokes aimed at me, the more I actually love it,” Brady shared. “If people are joking about you, it means we’re on good terms. I don’t take myself too seriously, but I comprehend that it was quite tough for my kids.”

Brady, a father of three, has a son, Jack, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, born in August 2007. He shares son Benjamin, born in December 2009, and daughter Vivian, born in December 2012, with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.

Tom Brady acknowledged that being the target of a Netflix roast was not his best choice as a parent. “I enjoyed the jokes directed at me; they were hilarious. “As a parent, there are moments you mess up and only realize afterward,” Brady added. “We’re not flawless parents, and as you mature, you’ll notice there’s no perfect guide for it; self-evaluation is crucial.”

Brady revealed that the night of The Roast of Tom Brady was “electrifying,” but he felt the weight of it the next day.

“I’ll never forget discussing it with my kids the next day; it felt like a stake through the heart,” he recounted. “They’re protective of their parent, and they were just like, ‘What was the purpose of that? Why did you do it?’ You learn and grow.”

The roast featured jokes that targeted the former athlete, including barbs about his past relationship with Bündchen, 44.

Brady and Bündchen filed for divorce in 2022 after 13 years of marriage. Post-separation, she began dating jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente, which provided ample material for the jests during Brady’s roast. (Bündchen and Valente are expecting their first child together in February.)
